Idaho Steelheads News Release

Stockton, CA- The Idaho Steelheads (6-4-5) battled to a 2-1 shootout win over the Stockton Thunder (8-1-4) at Stockton Arena as the Steelheads and Thunder played to a shootout for the fourth time in five games. The Steelheads have had 10 of their 15 games this season decided by a single goal.

After a scoreless first period, the Thunder scored the game's first goal as Chris Lawrence picked up a bouncing puck and tapped it out of mid-air and over the Steelheads goal line to take a 1-0 lead.

At 1:12 of the third period with the Steelheads on the power play, Dustin Friesen found Marty Flichel open at the top of the left circle, and Flichel found the back of the net for Idaho to tie the game at 1-1. The goal was Flichel's sixth of the season; all of his goals have come with the man-advantage. Mark Derlago and Friesen assisted on Flichel's goal.

After regulation with the score still tied at 1-1, the Steelheads went to overtime for the seventh time this season. Overtime didn't yield an outcome, and the Steelheads were forced to win the game in the shootout portion. Mike Gabinet and John Swanson- whose goal was the winner- were able to convert in the shootout portion.

Mike Zacharias (2-1-2) earned the win for Idaho, as he stopped 27 of 28 shots. Garrett Zemlak suffered the shootout loss; he is 1-1-1 on the season and stopped 25 of 26 shots in the game.

The Steelheads are back action Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday night in Victoria to take on the Victoria Salmon Kings. They return to Qwest Arena for three games in three nights against the Alaska Aces on Thursday, December 2.
