
David Shantz makes 34 saves in 4-1 victory over Bakersfield

Bakersfield, CA - In a Saturday night matchup, the Victoria Salmon Kings took on the Bakersfield Condors at the Rabobank Arena. Victoria's David Shantz started in net, while Bakersfield gave the nod to Peter Hirsch.
Victoria scored the lone of the opening frame at the 13:13 mark. Off of a face-off, P.J. Atherton wristed a shot from the right point that beat a screened Hirsch blocker side. For Atherton the goal was his third of the season. Shantz stopped all 14 shot he faced as the Salmon Kings skated into the first intermission with their 1-0 lead.
Milan Gajic extended Victoria's advantage at the 15:24 mark of the second period for his seventh goal of the campaign. Gajic picked up the loose puck behind the Condors' net and curled into the left face-off circle and fired a shot over the glove of Hirsch. The Salmon Kings led the Condors 2-0 after two periods of play.
Bakersfield got on the scoreboard at the 7:14 mark of the final frame when Ryan Kaip received a pass from Andrew Ianiero in the slot and released a wrist shot past the blocker of Shantz into the net. The goal was Kaip's eighth of the season. The Salmon Kings took a 3-1 lead with 3:15 remaining in the game. While on the power play Ryan MacMurchy picked up a rebound in the right face-off circle and fired a shot over the left shoulder of Hirsch. MacMurchy's goal was his fifth of the campaign. Victoria went 1/2 = 50.0% on the power play, while Bakersfield was 0/6 = 0.0%. The Condors outshot the Salmon Kings 35-25.
