
Salmon Kings Get by Thunder

Stockton, CA - In a Sunday afternoon matchup the Victoria Salmon Kings and the Stockton Thunder met at the Stockton Arena. The Salmon Kings started David Shantz, while Garrett Zemlak was given the nod by the Thunder.
Neither team could net the game's first goal as the goaltenders stood tall in the opening period. Shantz stopped the 11 opportunities he faced, while Zemlak made eight saves in a scoreless first frame.
The Salmon Kings opened the scoring at the 3:49 mark of the middle frame as Matt Siddall notched his fifth of the season when he poked in a loose puck sitting in the goal crease off a P.J. Atherton point shot. Victoria doubled their lead 27 seconds later when Milan Gajic passed the puck cross-crease where Kiel McLeod put a shot past Zemlak for his fifth marker of the year. Ryan MacMurchy gave the Salmon Kings a 3-0 advantage when his wrist shot from the right face-off circle went top corner past the Stockton netminder for his sixth of the campaign at 7:17. The Thunder got on the board at the 13:17 mark as a shot by Dan Ringwald from the left side that was tipped from in front of the net by Jason Pitton. The goal was Pitton's fourth of the year. Victoria held a 3-1 advantage after forty minutes.
Victoria collected the lone tally of the final period at the 15:23 mark. While on the man advantage, Chad Painchaud snapped a shot past the glove hand of Zemlak. The goal was Painchaud's fifth of the season and rounded out the scoring for the game. Salmon Kings 4 Thunder 1.
Victoria went 1/333.3% on the power play, while Stockton was 0/400.0%. The Thunder outshot the Salmon Kings 32-29.
