Gladiators Muscle past Wildcatters 3-2

The Gwinnett Gladiators matched their longest winning streak of the season as they won their 5th straight game, defeating the Texas Wildcatters 3-2 on Saturday night on the Your Best Rate Financial Home Ice at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Gwinnett got goals from Brad Schell, Jamie Milam and Chad Painchaud in the win as the Gladiators improve to 22-11-4 and move into a tie for first place in the ECHL's South Division.

Gladiators fans didn't have to wait long to toss their teddy bears on to the ice for the Gladiators 4th Annual Teddy Bear Toss Night as Brad Schell posted the first goal of the game 3:29 into the first period. Working a 2-on-1 break with Colton Fretter, Schell took a pass deep in the Texas zone and beat Texas netminder Matt Yeats for the marker.

Jamie Milam posted his 11th goal of the season for the Gladiators to give Gwinnett a 2-0 lead on the Wildcatters 8:19 into the first period. On the power play Milam ripped a slap shot from the point past Yeats for the goal for Gwinnett. Scott Mifsud and Schell had the assist on the power goal for Gwinnett.

Texas cut the Gladiators lead in half with a 5-on-3 power play goal at the 14:57 mark of the second period, as Daniel Sparre was able to beat Gwinett netminder Dave Caruso on a one timer from the right wing circle for the goal. Paul Albers and Mike Madill collected the assists on the goal for the Wildcatters.

The two teams exchanged goals in the third period, with Texas tying the game at two before Gwinnett was able to regain the lead later in the period. Mike Madill equalized the game at two as he jammed the puck past Caruso for the marker 3:35 into the third period. Colin Nicholson had the assist on the marker for the Wildcatters.

Chad Painchaud added his 11th goal of the season for Gwinnett at the 8:06 mark of the third period as he picked up a rebound in the slot and ripped the puck past Yeats for the game winner for the Gladiators. Mike Vigilante and Jim Jackson collected the assists for Gwinnett on the game-winning goal.

Dave Caruso finished with 29 saves in the win for Gwinnett as the Gladiators went 1-for-9 on the power play in the contest.
