Gladiators Awe Called up to Chicago of the AHL

The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that defenseman Jon Awe has been called up to the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League.

Awe makes his second trip of the season to the AHL as he was recalled to the Wilkes Barre Scranton Penguins from December 8th through December 10th. Awe was twice called up to the AHL during his rookie season last year appearing in 18 AHL games between Portland and Providence.

The Memphis Tennessee native currently leads the ECHL in power play goals as his 16 power play goals ties an ECHL record for most power play goals by a defenseman in a single season.

Awe was selected as a starter for the American Conference squad for the 2007 RBK ECHL All Star Game in Boise, ID, on January 17th. He also attended the Atlanta Thrasher's training camp in September before joining Gwinnett.

Currently ranked 4th in scoring on the Gladiators with 40 points, Awe's 18 goals ranks second in that category for Gwinnett.

Awe should be available for the Wolves for their 8:00 p.m. start tonight at the Allstate Arena against the Hamilton Bulldogs.
