Gladiators Honor 10th Anniversary Team

The Gwinnett Gladiators unveiled their 10th Anniversary Team during a first intermission ceremony of a thrilling 6-5 win over the Evansville IceMen on Saturday, February 9th. The Anniversary team was comprised of six (6) starters and fourteen (14) reserve players as voted on by fans and via an online vote and recommendations solicited from a blue-ribbon panel of executive team management and media representatives.

The six players selected as the starters include forwards Andy Brandt, Cam Brown and Jeff Campbell, defensemen Troy Milam and Jim Jackson, and goaltender Sean Fields.

Brandt ranks as the all-time games played leader in Gladiators history. He has skated with the team in six different seasons, and is the current team captain.

A former team captain, Brown played three seasons with the Gladiators and scored the first goal in team history. He was named to the ECHL Hall of Fame in 2010 and is the ECHL's all time games played and penalty minutes leader.

Campbell played with Gwinnett from 2004 through 2008. He was named the ECHL MVP in 2006 and twice led the Gladiators in scoring.

Jackson skated three seasons with the Gladiators and leads all Gwinnett defensemen in career scoring with 116 points. He also represented the Gladiators in the 2005 ECHL All Star Game.

Milam played two seasons with Gwinnett and was named to the 2004 ECHL All Star game in his rookie season. He led Gladiators defensemen in scoring during the Gladiators 2006 Kelly Cup Playoff run and American Conference Championship title.

Fields has played the most games as a goaltender for the Gladiators history and his 32 wins during the '05-'06 season are still the most by a Gladiators goaltender in one season.

Fourteen players were selected as reserves for the Gladiators 10th Anniversary team. The forwards include Guillaume Desbiens, Chris Durno, Scott Mifsud, Kevin Doell, Tyler Murovich, Derek Nesbitt, Mike Vigilante and Brad Schell. The reserve defensemen named to the squad include Jon Awe, Cody Brookwell, Paul Flache, Rick Emmett and Dallas Jackson. Adam Berkhoel was named the reserve goaltender for the Gladiators 10th Anniversary Team.

Desbiens was an All-Star in 2006, and went on to play in the NHL for Vancouver and Calgary from 2009 to 2012.

Durno skated with Gwinnett for three seasons from 2003 to 2006 leading team in postseason scoring in '04 and he played in the NHL with Colorado from 2008 to 2010.

Doell skated with Gwinnett from 2003-2005, named ECHL rookie of the year in 2004 and he played for the Atlanta Thrashers during the 07-08 season.

Mifsud played three seasons with Gwinnett and recorded 3 game-winning goals during the 2006 Kelly Cup Finals run.

Murovich skated two seasons with the Gladiators, including this year in Gwinnett and is currently on recall to Hamilton of the American Hockey League.

Nesbitt played with Gwinnett in three different seasons and led all Gladiators rookies in scoring during the 05-06 season.

Schell skated six seasons with the Gladiators and was named ECHL MVP in 2007.

Vigilante skated with Gwinnett for four seasons and played one season for the organization while in Mobile.

Awe played with Gwinnett for four seasons including this year and he was named the 2007 ECHL Defenseman of the Year.

Brookwell skated three seasons with Gwinnett including this year and led all Gladiators defensemen in plus/minus last season.

Flache skated four seasons with Gwinnett and was twice named team captain.

Emmett played with Gwinnett from 2003-06 and is currently the Gladiators assistant head coach.

Jackson skated three seasons with the Gladiators, and was on the roster earlier this year before his AHL call-up to Bridgeport, and led Gladiators defensemen in scoring last season.

Berkhoel was between the pipes with Gwinnett for two seasons from 2004-2006, and earned a call up to the NHL as he played in net for the Atlanta Thrashers in the '05-'06 season.

Fans were encouraged to cast their vote for the Gladiators 10th Anniversary Team via the official team website www.gwinnettgladiators.com over a two week period leading up to the Gladiators 10th Anniversary Weekend Celebration. Selection criteria included customary evaluation of comparative statistical performance parameters, and fans were also advised to evaluate candidate nominations for players they felt best represented and embodied the Gladiators spirit over the past 10 seasons.

The Gladiators 10th Anniversary Team was honored at an intermission ceremony at each of the Gladiators games on February 9th and 10th at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Fans had the opportunity to receive a special 10th Anniversary team photo commemorating the team at the game on February 9th.

The Gladiators are the ECHL Affiliate of the Phoenix Coyotes of the National Hockey League and are members of the ECHL, the Premier "AA" Hockey League and play all home games at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
