
Gladiators fall to Pensacola 2-1 in Shootout in First pre season game of 05-06

The Pensacola Ice Pilots needed 8 rounds in a shootout to get by the Gwinnett Gladiators 2-1 in the first preseason game of the 2005-06 season.
Ryan Fultz was Gwinnett's lone goal scorer in the loss. Pensacola jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Dallas Steward as he beat Gladiators netminder Sean Fields to the far post. Dominic Noel dropped the puck off for Steward in the left wing face off circle setting up the goal and picking up an assist on the tally at 7:45 of the first period. Fultz picked up the goal by jammed the puck off the back of the leg of Pensacola netminder Trevor Cumming at 11:40 of the opening period to tie the game at one. The tally came on the Gladiators 3rd power play of the game. Scott Mifsud and Steve Slaton recorded the assists on the goal. Gwinnett finished 1-for-4 on the power play at the end of the first period while out shooting the Ice Pilots 21-8 in the period. Pensacola couldn't convert on the only power play chances in the second period as the teams skated to a scoreless second period. The Ice Pilots posted 11 second period shots to the Gladiators 8 second period shots. Gwinnett had three power plays in the third period but couldn't capitalize sending the game to overtime. Pensacola was unable to score on a power play late in overtime pushing the contest into a shootout. The Shootout needed eight rounds when Dominic Noel was able to solve Fields with a snapshot through the five-hole. The Gladiators will take on the Ice Pilots for a second consecutive game on Saturday night at the Pensacola Civic Center at 8:05 p.m. in preparation for their home opener on Friday, October 21st at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
