Hershey Bears News Release

The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club rallied to defeat Portland and Manchester this past weekend to remain one point back of the first place Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the East Division standings. The BEARS have 10 regular season games remaining, and are looking to win the team's second division title in three seasons.

The BEARS host Toronto this Wednesday at GIANT Center prior to visits from Bridgeport and Wilkes- Barre/Scranton this weekend. Tickets are available at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 534- 3911.

Giroux gets it done: Alexandre Giroux became the fifth player in HERSHEY BEARS history Sunday to score 50 or more goals in a single season. Giroux scored number 50 on a power play goal at 3:58 of the third period on Manchester goaltender Jonathan Bernier with assists to Sami Lepisto and Staffan Kronwall. With 10 regular season games remaining, Giroux needs just three goals to tie Tony Cassolato's franchise record of 53 goals in a single season. No BEARS player had scored 50 goals in 22 years prior to Giroux's goal Sunday. Tim Tookey finished the 1986-87 with 51 goals.

Eye of the Tigers: Bridgeport and HERSHEY seem poised on a collision course as the regular season winds down. The Sound Tigers, who will be at GIANT Center this Saturday, lead the East Division by one point with the BEARS holding two games in hand. HERSHEY is looking to win an East Division championship for the second time in three years.

Groovy Neuvy: Goaltender Michal Neuvirth made a HERSHEY season high 47 saves Sunday in a win over the Manchester Monarchs. Neuvirth also made six straight stops in a nine-round shootout to lead the BEARS to victory.

Crazy eight: With back-to-back wins this past weekend when trailing after two periods, the BEARS have now won eight games this season when behind after 40 minutes. Only Syracuse (11) and Bridgeport (10) have won more games when trailing after two in 2008-09 than the BEARS.

Washington update: The first place Capitals complete a five- game road trip Tuesday night in Toronto before hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning Friday at Verizon Center.
