West Sacramento, Calif. - Sacramento River Cats starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez and infielder Eric Patterson were named to the Pacific Coast League Postseason All-Star Team for the 2008 season, league officials announced Monday. The prestigious team, featuring the league's best players at every position including right-handed and left-handed starting pitchers, is selected by the vote of the PCL's field managers and radio broadcasters based on season-long performance.

Gio Gonzalez, currently with the Oakland Athletics, was named the top left-handed pitcher in the league. The 22-year-old was 8-7 with a 4.24 ERA for Sacramento and led the PCL in strikeouts with128 at the time of his August 6th call-up to Oakland. Gonzalez, a native of Hialeah, Florida, is in his fifth professional season and his first with the Oakland organization. Gonzalez was acquired by the A's as part of the trade that sent Nick Swisher to the Chicago White Sox before the 2008 season. Last season in Double-A Birmingham, Gonzalez led all of minor league baseball with a strikeout total of 185.

Eric Patterson, also currently on the Oakland roster, earned honors as the All-PCL squad's second baseman. The 25-year-old was added to Sacramento's roster on July 10 after being acquired by the A's as part of the midseason trade with the Chicago Cubs that sent Rich Harden to Chicago. Patterson hit .330 this season with the River Cats with eight doubles, two triples, four home runs and eight stolen bases. For the season, including his time with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs of the PCL, Patterson hit .324 with 24 doubles, five triples, 10 home runs and 19 stolen bases.
