Iowa Cubs News Release
The Iowa Cubs have secured a spot in the 2008 Pacific Coast League playoffs. With an 80-55 record and eight games left, the Cubs hold the top spot in the Northern Division in the American Conference by nine games.
The Iowa Cubs will host the Oklahoma RedHawks in the first two games of the best-of-five first round playoff series at Principal Park on Wednesday, September 3 and Thursday, September 4. Both games will start at 6:35 p.m.
On Wednesday, September 3 there will be a pre-game tailgate from 5-7 p.m. outside the Cub Club entrance with dollar draft beer specials, as well as a family four pack and Fungo during the game. The family four pack includes four hot dogs and four general admission tickets for $44.
Game two of the first round will also be played at Principal Park on Thursday, September 4. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. with fireworks following the game. The regular season Mug Club and Knothole Gang Thursday promotions will also be in effect, as will the family four pack. The winner of the best-of-five series will proceed to the League Championship Series.
Ticket prices will remain the same as they were in the regular season. General admission seats are $7 each and reserved seat tickets are $10. Seniors, children (12 and under), and military personnel get a discount price of $6 for reserved grandstand seats.
In the event that the Cubs win the first round, the team would also get to host games three, four and five of the League Championship Series. These would take place on Friday, September 12, Saturday, September 13 (if necessary) and Sunday, September 14 (if necessary).
The Iowa Cubs last made the playoffs in 2004. They beat Oklahoma three games to two for the American Conference Championship but were swept 3-0 by Sacramento in the league finals.
1993 was the last - and only - time Iowa won a Championship. The team was part of the American Association, a league made up of eight triple-A clubs.
