
All-PCL Team Named

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Pacific Coast League today announced its 2008 All-PCL Team, featuring the League's best players at every position including right-handed and left-handed starting pitchers, as well as a relief pitcher. The prestigious team is selected annually by vote of the PCL's field managers and media representatives based on season-long performance.
The infield features two players from the 2007 All-PCL team in first baseman Colorado Springs Sky Sox Joe Koshansky and Sacramento River Cats second baseman Eric Patterson, acquired by the Oakland A's in a mid-season trade with the Chicago Cubs. Koshansky, is the current league leader in RBI with 113 and fifth in home runs with 29. The team features co-third baseman with the Salt Lake Bees Matt Brown and the Tucson Sidewinders Jamie D'Antona sharing the honors. D'Antona (.351) and Brown (.326) are second and eighth respectively in the league top 10 for average. Brown is joined by his teammate Brandon Wood at shortstop, who is currently fourth in the league with 30 home runs. Designated hitter Dallas McPherson of the Albuquerque Isotopes is the league leader in home runs with 40. Behind the plate is Tacoma Rainiers catcher Rob Johnson who is currently hitting .311 with nine home runs and 45 RBI.
The members of the 2008 All-PCL outfield boost some impressive numbers led by Nelson Cruz of the Oklahoma Redhawks, Nick Stavinoha of the Memphis Redbirds, and Terry Tiffee of the Las Vegas 51s. Cruz's name can be found in many of the league leaders categories. He currently is third in average at .342, second in home runs with 37, fourth in RBI with 99, and second in stolen bases with 24. He also is second in on-base percentage at .429, first in slugging percentage at .695, and tied-1st in runs scored with 93. Tiffee currently leads the league in batting average at .375 and is fourth in on-base percentage at .415. Sitting in fourth place for average is Stavinoha, who is currently hitting .337 with 16 home runs, 23 doubles, and 74 RBI.
On the mound, Salt Lake Bees Shane Loux (12-6, 3.98) and Sacramento River Cats Gio Gonzalez (8-7, 4.24) were selected to the starting pitching positions with Loux, currently fourth in league for ERA as the right-hander role and Gonzalez as the league's top left-hander. The relief pitcher award went to Salt Lake Bees pitcher Jason Bulger who is tied for fourth in saves with 15.
