he Calgary Vipers issued out ten free passes in dropping a 6-2 decision to the Orange County Flyers at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. Nine walks and one hit by pitch were provided to the Flyers in the fifth inning after three free passes to load the bases Keith Ginter clubbed a grand slam to put his team ahead 6-0. Calgary scored two runs right after the slam but did not score in the final four innings.

Anastacio Martinez (0-2) took the loss in giving up four runs, four hits, and four walks in four and a third innings. 2009 Golden Baseball League Pitcher of the Year Matt Durkin (1-0) earned the win by throwing seven innings and allowing only two runs.

Orange County took the early lead in the top of the third inning as the pitcher Durkin reached on an infield single, Derek Perren walked, both runners moved up on a wild pitch, Jimmy Rohan plated a run with a sacrifice fly, and Ben Johnson made the score 2-0 with a run batted in base hit.

The Flyers added to their lead in the fifth inning as Steve Boggs was hit by a pitch, Rohan walked to chase starter Anastacio Martinez from the game, Johnson also walked to load the bases, and Ginter hit a grand slam for a 6-0 advantage.

Calgary grabbed a couple runs back in the bottom of the frame for a 6-2 score as Drew Miller and Jonny Kaplan singled, both moved up on a wild pitch, Luis Taveras cashed a run with a groundout, and Guillermo Reyes plated another with an infield single.

Daniel Buller was solid for Calgary out of the bullpen throwing two hitless and scoreless innings. Rene Miniel also pitched a scoreless frame while Daniel Chaffardet recorded three strikeouts and did not allow a hit or run in the ninth inning.

This series against the 2009 Golden Baseball League Championship Series Most Valuable Player Sergio Pedroza and the Orange County Flyers continues on Thursday June 3rd and Friday June 4th at 7:05 PM MDT as the Vipers will host the NEW Opening Day with Magnet Schedule Giveaway on Thursday. On Saturday June 5th at 5:05 PM MDT it will be Repack the Park where the 2009 Championship Rings and Banner will be presented. Finally on Sunday June 6th at 1:35 PM MDT the five-game series wraps up with Schedule Poster Giveaway.
