Oshawa Generals News Release

Coming off a road win Tuesday night in Ottawa the Oshawa Generals were looking to pick up their fourth straight win Friday when they travelled to Sudbury to take on the surging Wolves. Sudbury, who sat second in the Eastern Conference behind the Generals, are playing arguably their best hockey of the season and had won six games in a row coming into Friday's contest. This was the first game between the two teams this season, who will meet three more times, twice in Oshawa and once more in Sudbury before seasons end.

Sudbury came out with lots of confidence in the first period and tallied 13 shots in the first twenty minutes. Only one shot found its way into the back of the Oshawa net when third year player Nicholas Baptiste beat Oshawa goaltender Daniel Altshuller on a short side wrist shot. The Generals countered with eight shots of their own in the first period but could not solve veteran net minder Franky Palazzese.

Sudbury came out with control again in the second period and took only two minutes and eighteen seconds to extend their lead to two, this time the Wolves leading goal scorer Nathan Pancel got his 30th goal of the season. The Generals kept to their tough road style and were able to get on the board just over the twelve-minute mark when veteran defenceman Colin Suellentrop took a slap shot from the blue line that beat Palazzese. It was Suellentrop's first goal of the season and ninth of his career.

Oshawa started the third period down 2-1 and came out with a strong forecheck trying to even the score. The Generals ran into some penalty troubles after a Cole Cassels crosscheck. Sudbury's Nathan Pancel was able to score his second of the night on the man advantage putting Sudbury up 3-1. After another Oshawa penalty, Coach Smith was served with an unsportsmanlike and the team had to play five on three for almost a full two minutes. Matthew Campagna was left alone in the slot on the man advantage and beat Altshuller to put his team up 4-1. Oshawa's Cassels countered with a late tally on a nice pass from Josh Sterk to make it four to two. After pulling the goalie and some intense pressure, the Generals could not find the back of the net again and dropped the contest 4-2.

The Generals play in less than 24 hours when they travel to Sault Ste Marie to take on the Greyhounds at 7:07 PM tomorrow night. The team will then return to Oshawa and play on December 20th at home before taking their Christmas break.
