New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH - Playing as Gatos Feroces De New Hampshire in a celebration of Latinx culture and values, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays Double-A affiliate) took a 3-1 loss to the Hartford Yard Goats (Colorado Rockies) in 10 innings on Saturday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium. The Yard Goats partook in the festivities as Los Chivos De Hartford.
The teams combined for just seven hits over the first nine innings, with a solo home run from each side. Bret Boswell homered to right field in the second inning to put Hartford in front, and Gunnar Heidt tied it at 1-1 for New Hampshire with a blast to left field in the seventh.
Manny Melendez broke the deadlock in the top of the 10th with a bases-loaded bloop double to left field, plating two runs and giving Hartford a 3-1 lead. Ben Bowden (S, 9) handled the home half to finish the game.
New Hampshire's Hector Perez put together one of his best starts of 2019, holding Hartford to one run on three hits with two walks and six strikeouts. Hartford starter Ty Culbreth tossed six scoreless frames, and retired the first 10 batters he faced before a Forrest Wall single in the fourth inning.
Willy Ortiz was terrific out of the Fisher Cats bullpen, retiring nine of 10 hitters over three hitless innings.
After a 1-0 win on Thursday, a 4-3 loss on Friday, and an extra-inning defeat on Saturday, the Fisher Cats will look to salvage a series split in Sunday's game at 1:35 p.m. LHP Zach Logue (2-1, 3.54 ERA) will take the mound for New Hampshire.
