Louisiana IceGators News Release

Florence SC - A two game swing through South Carolina started off on a bad note as the PeeDee Pride controlled the game from the opening face off, sending the Gators to a 6-1 defeat Friday night in Florence.

The Gators trailed 2-0 at the end of one period of play, as the Pride took advantage of mistakes to build an early lead. Michael Chin (5) tallied a power play goal at 7:08, scoring on a mini breakaway after a Gator turnover to make the score 1-0. The Pride stretched the advantage to 2-0 when defenseman Adam Elzinger (3) scored on a 3-2 at 12:47. Elzinga, the trailer on the play, snapped a one-time between the legs of Nathan Marsters for the lamp lighter, assists going to Jeff Swez and Tyler Kindle.

The Gators 2 goal deficit turned into a 5 goal trench as the Pride scored three more in period two. Elzinga's wrist shot from the left circle, at 7:25 made the score 3-0, the defenseman with his 4th goal of the year and 2nd of the game. Two goals off rebounds gave the Pride a commanding advantage as Gregg Johnson (8) at 9:04 and Brian Collins (20) at 15:18 lit the lamp behind a defenseless Marsters.

The IceGators one bright spot occurred at 8:40 of the 3rd when the "Hinton Connection" struck again. Jade Galbraith's pass toward the net was redirected past Nick Boucher by Mark Rooneem for his 8th of the season. Chad Spurr ended the scoring with his 10th a one-timer from the right circle at 11:10. Louisiana's record is now 16-19-3, 35 points and 5th place in the South. The Gators were outshot by PeeDee 35-28. Power plays were 0-5 for the Gators and 1-2 for the Pride. The Gators next game is a short 120 mile ride across the state to North Charleston, when the Gators take on the South Carolina Stingrays tomorrow night at 6:35 CST.
