Garrett Homers Again, But Birds Drop Finale to Saints

August 23, 2018 - American Association (AA) - Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

An early 5-1 deficit was too much to overcome for the Sioux Falls Canaries, who dropped the last game of their three-game set with the St. Paul Saints 13-8.

Maxx Garrett hit his 12th home run of the year in the defeat.

The Saints jumped out early via a two-run home run by Brady Shoemaker off of Canaries starter Alex Ogren. It was Ogren's first professional start.

Mike Hart singled in the bottom of the first to make it 2-1. It extended Hart's hitting streak to 22 games, the longest hit streak in the American Association this season.

The Saints scored three more in the second behind RBI singles by Max Murphy and Kyle Barrett. Ogren allowed six runs over four innings of work.

Garrett's homer, a solo shot, came in the second to make it 5-2 Saints.

From there, the Saints scored five unanswered runs to take a 9-2 lead after five, and led 13-3 after eight-and-a-half.

The Canaries clawed back in the ninth, scoring five runs. Jordan Dean and Jeff Malm had two RBIs each in the inning; Malm finished with three for the game.
