Chicago 4, Gary SouthShore 0 - Box Score

The Chicago Dogs blanked the Gary SouthShore RailCats 4-0 on Wednesday night at Impact Field.

The Dogs scored the first run in the bottom of the fifth on a sac fly from SS Stephen Perez than plated LF Joe Benson (2-for-3) and added to the lead in eighth with two big hits. 1B Dalton Blaser (2-for-4) hit a two-out single that plated Rf Rubi Silva (2-for-4) and, in the next at-bat, Benson doubled home DH Trey Vavra (2-for-3) and Blaser.

For the RailCats, 2B Will Savage had two of the team's five hits. Chicago starting pitcher Tommy Thorpe earned the win for working 6.2 innings, allowing four hits, two walks and striking out eight batters.

Texas 5, Cleburne 3 - Box Score

The Texas AirHogs worked past the Cleburne Railroaders 5-3 Wednesday night in Texas thanks to a productive night from RF Stewart Ijames.

The AirHogs struck first as Ijames (3-for-4) scored on a pass ball in the bottom of the first inning. Ijames scored again in the third when 1B Correlle Prime (2-for-3) singled but the Railroaders slid in front in the top of the fourth. CF K.C. Huth hit a two-run home run to tie the game and SS Alex Polston scored later in the inning on a single from LF Hunter Clanin (3-for-5).

That lead was short-lived however as Ijames' singled home 3B Han Jichao and 2B Liang Pei to take the lead back for good.

C Jesse Baker put a bow on the win with a solo home run in the eighth inning, his first roundtripper of the year.

Sioux City 7, Fargo-Moorhead 3 - Box Score

The Sioux City Explorers beat the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks 7-3 to move to within just one win of clinching a playoff spot.

The Explorers saw a trio of three-hit performances as CF Luis Durango went 3-for-5, SS Nate Samson went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and LF Blake Schmit went 3-for-5. 3B Jose Sermo went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored while DH Dean Green added two hits and an RBI as well.

For the RedHawks, CF Devan Ahart went 3-for-5 with a home run and both 1B Leobaldo Pina and 2B Maikol Gonzalez went 2-for-4.

Wichita 7, Winnipeg 3 - Box Score

The Wichita Wingnuts pulled away late from the Winnipeg Goldeyes 7-3 to earn the series sweep.

The Goldeyes kickstarted the night with back-to-back solo home runs in the first inning from CF Reggie Abercrombie (17) and 3B Josh Mazzola (15). 1B Abel Nieves drew one back with a sac fly in the bottom of the first but DH Grant Heyman (2-for-4) added another solo shot (his 15th) for the visitors in the fourth to push the lead to 3-1. Wichita responded in the bottom of the fourth as LF Tony Thomas hit a two-run homer (his league-leading 21st) that tied the score and C Logan Trowbridge lifted a sac fly that scored 3B Chase Simpson.

The Wingnuts padded the lead with a solo home run from RF Angel Reyes to lead-off the sixth and a two-RBI single from CF Zach Nehrir in the seventh.

St. Paul 13, Sioux Falls 8 - Box Score

The St. Paul Saints racked up 13 runs on 15 hits and held off a late push from the Sioux Falls Canaries to snag a 13-8 win Wednesday night.

Eight different Saints recorded at least one hit in the game and five of them had multi-hit games. RF Max Murphy led the way as he went 4-for-6 with two RBIs and a run scored. 1B Brady Shoemaker added two hits and two RBIs and 2B Zach Walters, 3B Dante Bichette Jr. and DH Justin O'Conner each also had a pair of hits.

The Canaries, who had 13 hits from nine batters, surged for five runs in the ninth inning to cut the Saints' lead in half before running out of outs. SS Jordan Dean was one of four Canaries to record two hits o the night and he added two RBIs.

Lincoln 3, Kansas City 1 (Game 1/9 Innings) - Box Score

The Lincoln Saltdogs took game one of their doubleheader with the Kansas City T-Bones 3-1 on the back of one big swing in the second inning.

In the second, RF Randolph Oduber hit a lead-off single and moved to second when 3B T.J. Bennett drew a walk. SS Ivan Marin drew another walk to load up the bases and CF Alex Glenn (2-for-3) blasted a double to score all three of them.

Those three runs proved to be enough as the T-Bones' only run came in the top of the seventh as SS Anthony Phillips scored (unearned) on a sacrifice fly from C Tucker Pennell (2-for-3). R Keith Curcio added three hits for the T-Bones.

Kansas City 5, Lincoln 1 (Game 2/9 Innings) - Box Score

After being held to a single run in game one, the Kansas City T-Bones returned the favor in game two, topping the Lincoln Saltdogs 5-1.

The T-Bones pitching staff, led by starter Barrett Astin, combined to throw a two-hitter in the night cap. Astin (9-3) earned the win for giving up the lone run - RF Randolph Oduber plated LF Brandon Jacobs while bouncing into a 6-4-3 double play in the fourth - allowing one hit, two walks and striking out five batters in six innings. Reliever Joe Filomeno tossed two innings and allowed just one hit and reliever Cody Winiarski picked up the save after a perfect ninth.

At the plate, LF Ryan Brett, CF Todd Cunningham, 1B Noah Perio Jr. and C Adrian Nieto each had a pair of hits and Perio Jr. had a game high two RBIs.
