Gameday: Adirondack vs. Orlando
October 28, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Adirondack Thunder News Release
Tonight's matchup is the second home game of the season for the Adirondack Thunder (4-0-0-0), as they welcome a fellow unbeaten, the Orlando Solar Bears, to the Glens Falls Civic Center for an Eastern Conference showdown. The Thunder are recharged fresh off of a weekend sweep in which they defeated Brampton (5-4) on Friday evening, followed by victories over Manchester (4-2 and 5-2) on Saturday and Sunday. Rob Bordson led the charge with six points (3-3-6) as he earned a nomination for the EHCL Player of the Week, and forwards Louick Marcotte and Kyle Flanagan each had a point in all three games.
Unbeaten: Adirondack and Orlando square off tonight as two of the ECHL's final four undefeated teams. There are only three teams in the entire league with a perfect record.
Skip To My Lou: Right winger Louick Marcotte currently leads the Thunder with five goals through four games. The winger's total is good for a tie for second in the ECHL, trailing only Utah's Barry Almeida (6). Marcotte's totals are bolstered by two, two-goal games, and includes the first goal in franchise history.
Rookie Blue: Tonight's battle to watch for could come between the ECHL's highest scoring rookies through two weekends, Adirondack's Louick Marcotte and Orlando's Jack Rodewald. Marcotte (5-2-7) and Rodewald (1-6-7) are tied atop the ECHL's rookie leaderboards with seven points apiece, with Marcotte leading in goals and Rodewald leading in assists.
Sizzling Special Teams: Adirondack currently has the distinction of sitting atop the ECHL's leaderboard in both power play and penalty kill. Boosted by three, two-goal efforts, Adirondack's man advantage unit has converted at a 40% clip through four games, while the penalty killing group has conceded just once on 15 attempts.
Tandem Ride: Ken Appleby and Kent Simpson have formed a formidable tandem in net for the Thunder. Appleby has recorded 84 saves in his three games this season and boasts a .920 save percentage this season. Simpson earned his first win of the season in his Thunder debut, with 37 saves on 39 shots and added an assist to contribute towards the scoring prowess as well.
Solar Eclipse: The Orlando Solar Bears enter tonight's action averaging a whopping six goals over their first three contests, which consists of three consecutive six-goal victories. Forwards Brady Vail (3-5-8) and Brett Findlay (4-1-5) are the players to watch as they lead Orlando in points and goals respectively, while Rodewald leads the way with six assists.
