Kansas City Mavericks News Release

INDEPENDENCE, MO (Oct. 27, 2015)- The Missouri Mavericks improve to 5-1-0-0 with their fifth consecutive win on Tuesday night at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. The Mavs scored a season-high five (5) goals over the Mallards two (2) in the victory.

Both teams held to a scoreless first twenty minutes of play, pacing each other with eight (8) shots on goal a side.

Mavericks 6'6" defenseman, Loic Leduc, scored his first Mavs goal only twenty-seven (27) seconds into the second period for a 1-0 lead. Tyler Barnes and Kellen Jones assisted on the play to garner their first of many points in the game.

Barnes collected his own tally at 11:50 while the Mavericks were on their second power-play opportunity of the night, assisted by Jesse Root and Jones. Left winger Sebastien Sylvestre quickly expanded upon the Mavs control of the game with another power-play goal at 14:24. Trevor Ludwig and Andrew Courtney were credited with assists on the goal that gave Missouri a 3-0 lead over the Mallards.

Quad City would not leave the period without a point, as the Mallards scored their own power-play goal with under two (2) minutes left in the period. Tanner Eberle netted the goal with the help of Zach Pochiro and Mike Monfredo.

Kellen Jones moved the Mavericks up 4-1 ahead of the Mallards at 2:35 of the final frame, taking his third point of the game. Rocco Carzo and defenseman Bryce Aneloski claimed the assists.

Pochiro cut into the Mavericks dominating scoreboard run and put a damper on a strong power-play night for Missouri when he scored for the Mallards, short-handed, at 11:08 of the third period. As regulation play wound down, the visiting team pulled net minder Brody Hoffman from their goal in favor of an extra attacker. The Mavs took advantage of the empty net with only five (5) seconds left on the clock, as Jesse Root, aided by Barnes and Jones, lit the lamp one last time for the Mavs.

Missouri net-minder, Parker Milner, made his first appearance in goal for the Mavs since his return from a call-up by the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League (AHL). Milner has not seen any time between the pipes for the Mavs since their season-opener on Friday, Oct. 16 against the Alaska Aces in Anchorage, AK. Milner made twenty-five (25) saves on Tuesday night through sixty minutes in goal against his former team. He holds a .927 save percentage.

The Mavericks play their next home game on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7:05p.m. against the Wichita Thunder. Before then the Mavs will face the Tulsa Oilers, Allen Americans, and Quad City Mallards on the road.
