Elmira Jackals News Release

ELMIRA, NY - October 28, 2015 - The Elmira Jackals suffered an 8-3 defeat tonight at the hands of the Reading Royals at Santander Arena, just one game after ruining the Royals' home opener with a 7-2 win.

Reading jumped ahead early as Justin Crandall capitalized on the man advantage just 4:04 into the contest. Ian Watters earned the lone assist on Crandall's second goal of the season. The aforementioned Crandall scored again minutes later at 6:14 with an even-strength strike assisted by Mike Pereira and Jordan Heywood. The Jackals bit back at 8:24 with a power-play marker of their own as Scott Jacklin tipped a centering feed in the slot past Connor Knapp for his second goal of the season. Cason Hohmann and Zach Tolkinen earned the assists. However, Reading would regain its two-goal lead before the end of the period with an Adam Comrie slap-shot that beat Sam Marotta and chased him from the game at 11:49. C.J. Motte entered the game in relief of Marotta.

Trailing 3-1 entering the second period, the Jackals quickly cut the deficit back down to one with Colin Jacobs' third goal in the last two games. Jacobs' quick strike at 1:04 of the second period was assisted by Cason Hohmann and Justin Bernhardt. Unfortunately, the Royals would answer 1:25 later with Mike Pereira's first goal of the season, assisted by Justin Crandall and Cam Reid. Pereira added his second goal of the night at 11:50 of the frame with Reid and Joe Rehkamp adding the helpers. The pesky Jackals wouldn't stay down by three for long as Mike Seidel beautifully tipped a point shot from Nathan Oystrick past Knapp for a power-play goal less than five minutes later. Chris Langkow also added an assist on Seidel's second of the year.

The comeback trail became longer just 24 seconds into the third period as former Jackal Maxim Lamarche tapped home fellow former Jackal Kevin Sundher's rebound for his second goal of the season. Geoff Walker added his first goal of the year later in the third and Adam Comrie recorded his second goal of the night on the man advantage late in the frame.

Sam Marotta turned away four shots on seven faced in 11:49 of work. C.J. Motte stopped 15 of 20 shots faced and was handed the loss. Connor Knapp made 10 saves on 13 shots faced to earn the win.
