Adirondack Thunder News Release

TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: is the first of the season between divisional rivals Adirondack and Norfolk, the first of 10 meetings this season. Adirondack and Norfolk last met on April 4, 2014 in the AHL, as the Norfolk Admirals defeated the Adirondack Phantoms 2-1. The Thunder return home after six games away from the Civic Center over the past three weeks, where the team went 4-2-0-0 and earned eight out of a possible twelve points over the stretch. Adirondack currently sits in second place in the Eastern Conference, four points behind the Florida Everblades but with four games in hand.

LAST TIME OUT: The Thunder lost a tough one on Saturday, as they coughed up a third period lead in Greenville and fell 3-2 to the Swamp Rabbits. Michael Kirkpatrick shined bright in the loss, as the forward had the first two-goal game of his professional career. Adirondack responded well after their only other loss this season, as netminder Ken Appleby posted a 31-save shutout against the Toledo Walleye on November 7.

CONSISTENT CONSTANT: Defenseman Ryan Constant has been on a roll as of late, as his point streak is up to eight games, dating back to October 25th in the win over the Manchester Monarchs. Constant's streak is the longest of his professional career, breaking his previous mark of seven, set in November 2012 with the Stockton Thunder.

YOU THE MAN, FLAN: Winger Kyle Flanagan collected three points in Friday's win over Atlanta, including his first two goals of the season. The multi-point effort surged Flanagan to a team leading 10 points (2-8-10) amongst active skaters.

CATCHER IN THE RY: Blueliner Ryan Culkin was assigned to Adirondack on Friday. Culkin skated in 38 games last season with the Adirondack Flames in the AHL and is returning to action following a pre-season shoulder injury.

TENACIOUS DEFENSE: Adirondack is amongst the ECHL's best in terms of keeping the puck of its own net, as they currently rank second in goals against (22) and third in goals against per game (2.00). The Thunder are led by a veteran defensive corps and rookie netminder Ken Appleby, who ranks in the league's top ten in goals against average (1.89) and save percentage (.934).

ADMIRABLE TRANSITION: After a slow start, Norfolk has righted the ship as of late, as they've split their past eight games (4-4). The Admirals are led offensively by center Josh Currie (6-6-12) in the forward ranks and defenseman Charles Olivier-Roussel (2-7-9) on the defensive corps. Bakersfield send-down Ty Rimmer has led the way between the pipes, with a .920 save percentage and four victories.
