Wichita Thunder News Release
Wichita, KS (Nov. 17th) - The Wichita Thunder, proud member of the ECHL and powered by Toyota, added another piece on Tuesday, acquiring the rights to defenseman Daniel Johnston from the Idaho Steelheads for future considerations.
Johnston, 23, comes to Wichita after appearing in three games with the Steelheads. The Calgary, Alberta native began his pro career playing for the Colorado Eagles during the 2013-14 season, scoring 29 points (6g, 23a). Last year, Johnston signed with Colorado, tallying one assist. The third-year pro was then traded to the Evansville IceMen, where he appeared in 55 games and scored 11 points (4g, 7a). In 127 total ECHL games, the 6-foot-2, 212-pound defenseman has scored 43 points (11g, 32a).
Prior to turning pro, Johnston played in 253 career games in the WHL with the Portland Winter Hawks and Lethbridge Hurricanes. He amassed 105 points (17g, 88a) during his six-year junior career.
Wichita returns home on Friday night as the Allen Americans make their first trip to INTRUST Bank Arena this season. The team is helping the cause by raising money for men's health awareness and growing moustaches. Fans are encouraged to donate to the Movember Foundation by clicking here.
The Thunder face-off against the Missouri Mavericks on Saturday night, which is Teddy Bear Toss Night. Fans are encouraged to bring a new stuffed animal to toss onto the ice after the Thunder score their first goal of the night. All donations will be collected and distributed to several different places around the city including hospitals, charities and places where a young child can receive a gift for the holidays.
Individual tickets for all games are on sale now. Tickets can be purchased at the INTRUST Arena Box office, by calling 855-755-SEAT or go online at www.selectaseat.com.
