Jenks Named Player of the Week
November 17, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Toledo Walleye News Release
Toledo, OH - Forward A.J. Jenks has been named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for November 9-15.
Jenks picked up at least one goal in all three games this past week with four total to go along with three assists. The native of Wolverine Lake, Michigan scored once with two assists during Toledo's 5-4 loss Friday night, collected two goals and one assist in Saturday's 6-2 win and scored the tying goal during the third period of Sunday's 4-3 shootout loss.
"A deserving award, from the start of the season he has continued to improve his game," said Head Coach Derek Lalonde. "After a hard loss on Friday, he played arguably his best hockey for the team to pick up three of four points available on the road Saturday and Sunday."
Sunday was also the 25-year-old forward's 300th professional contest that includes 122 games at the ECHL level with Toledo, Florida and Cincinnati. He has 46 goals, 36 assists and 86 penalty minutes while playing as a plus 27 in the ECHL. After twelve games this season, Jenks sits with 10 points (5G, 5A) overall and is second on the Walleye in scoring to Shane Berschbach who has 12 points (4G, 8A).
The former 4th Round Pick of the Florida Panthers in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft has also collected 44 points (17G, 27A) in 178 games played in the AHL between Rochester, San Antonio and Charlotte. Prior to turning professional, Jenks spent four years with Plymouth of the OHL. He had 193 points (79G, 114A) over 249 games with the Whalers. He set career highs in assists (40) and points (63) in 2009-10 while being a captain for the Whalers.
On behalf of A.J. Jenks, a case of pucks will be donated to a Toledo youth hockey organization by Sher-Wood Hockey, the exclusive puck supplier of the ECHL. Since beginning its sponsorship of the award in 2000-01, Sher-Wood Hockey has donated more than 33,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities.
The Toledo Walleye play their first School Celebration Day on Thursday, November 19 at 10:30 a.m. against Kalamazoo. On Saturday, the team celebrates 8-Bit Night with both the Walleye and Komets wearing specialty jerseys. For tickets, call 419-725-9255 or visit www.toledowalleye.com.
