Last time they met: The teams' last meeting was on January 12th in Saskatoon following the WHL trade deadline for last season. One of Saskatoon's favourite sons, Josh Paterson, had just been traded to the Winterhawks and was immediately pitted against his old club for his first game with his new club. Paterson scored twice for Portland in what was a 5-4 victory for the visitors. Then-rookie F Kyle Crnkovic also had a goal while Nolan Maier made 34 saves.
What it means for Saskatoon: Finding their first win at the halfway point of their longest road trip of the season.
The stat: 95. Nolan Kneen leads WHL defencemen in shots on goal with 95 - the next highest has 81. Kneen scored his fifth goal of the campaign in Seattle last night & leads the Blades in game-winning-goals with three.
The match-up: Joel Hofer vs. Nolan Maier - there's the potential for each goaltender from Team WHL at the 2019 CIBC Canada Russia Series to go head-to-head tonight. Hofer & Maier each took turns playing for Team WHL as teammates on November 13th & 14th and may now find themselves as opposition on opposite ends of the ice - however as Hofer played last night the Winterhawks may opt to start former Prince George Cougar Isaiah DiLaura.
It's a big night for: Les Lazaruk - the wily Blades broadcaster will take to the booth to call his 1,900th game for Saskatoon, taking him to just 100 shy of the tremendous 2,000 game mark. Congrats Les! Download & view the full game notes: click here
