Chiefs Complete Comeback in 5-3 Win over ICE

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs battled back from a 2-0 deficit to win 5-3 over the visiting Winnipeg ICE on Saturday night at Spokane Arena. Minnesota Wild prospect Adam Beckman led the way with a goal and two assists for his 12th multi-point game of the season.

Winnipeg found the net first as second-year forward Connor McClennon capitalized on a power play chance to score his sixth of the season at 15:18 of the first. Vegas Golden Knights first-round pick Peyton Krebs earned the primary assist.

The ICE extended their lead to 2-0 at 0:41 of the second as defenseman Reece Harsch found a loose puck on the right side after a wild scramble in front of Spokane netminder Lukas Parik.

The Chiefs battled right back as rearguard Noah King ripped home his second goal of the season under two minutes later as Spokane capitalized on a power play chance of their own.

Spokane evened things at two goals apiece with 5:25 left in the middle frame as Cordel Larson potted his fifth of the year. Beckman rifled a shot on net on a two-on-one rush to create a rebound, which Larson pushed across the goal line.

Winnipeg regained the lead with just 30 seconds remaining in the second, forcing a turnover in front of Parik and converting on the ensuing odd-man chance. Jakin Smallwood finished the play for his fifth goal.

Spokane took control of the contest in the final period, starting with a shorthanded goal at 8:06 scored by Beckman, who deflected a Winnipeg pass attempt to force a turnover and offensive chance the other way. The goal marked Spokane's first shorthanded score of the season.

Eli Zummack scored the game-winner at 11:51 on yet another errant pass by the opposition, this time intercepting the puck between the circles in front of ICE goalie Jesse Makaj before scoring unassisted from the right side. Larson added an empty-netter at 16:23 to reach the final tally.

Parik turned in another solid performance for the Chiefs, stopping 34-of-37 on the night while Makaj finished 27-0f-32. Each team went 1-for-2 on the power play.

With Saturday's win, the Chiefs move to 12-0 on the season when scoring four or more goals. The victory also positions Spokane tied with the Vancouver Giants for fifth place in the Western Conference with 26 points.

The Chiefs hit the road for a Wednesday game at Everett before returning home Friday, November 29 to take on the Vancouver Giants in a 2019 Western Conference Finals rematch.
