Brandon, MB. - The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings have announced that rookie center Nolan Ritchie has undergone successful surgery for a broken leg and is expected to make a full recovery.

The 17-ytear old local product, who will be lost to the club indefinitely, suffered the injury when he fell awkwardly into the boards during Friday night's overtime loss to the visiting Calgary Hitmen.

The surgery was performed Saturday in Brandon.

A former scoring star with the U18 Wheat Kings, Ritchie had five goals and 11 points in 24 games this season. In 28 career WHL games, the former Manitoba U18 Most Valuable Player has six goals and 12 points.

The Wheat Kings return to action next weekend when they play host to the Winnipeg ICE on Friday night in what will be the first of a home and home series with their provincial rivals.
