LAST TIME OUT:
The Bears close the weekend this afternoon after dropping a second straight game to the Providence Bruins last night. Hershey was bested by the P-Bruins, 4-3 in overtime, at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. After Providence led 1-0 through the first 20 minutes, Riley Barber scored twice in the second period to pull the Bears into a 2-2 tie. Jayson Megna gave Hershey a brief lead at 9:05 of the third period, but former Bear Paul Carey tied the game for Providence on the power play at 12:53. As the game progressed to overtime, it took just 12 seconds for Carey to give the Bruins the win with a quick wrist shot. Hartford was also in action last night, scoring a 3-2 overtime win at Springfield. John Gilmour had the game-winning marker at 3:54 of overtime.
SEASON SERIES VS. HARTFORD:
The Bears are a perfect 3-0-0-0 versus the Wolf Pack this season. Hershey won the last matchup between the two teams, 4-1, at the XL Center on Feb. 27. The Bears trailed 1-0 going into the third period, but the club rallied for a single period season-high four goals to earn the win. Riley Barber tallied twice, and Jonas Siegenthaler and Nathan Walker also added goals. Hershey also has beaten Hartford twice on home ice, winning 2-1 in a seven-round shootout on Nov. 4, and 6-2 on Dec. 8. The Bears are 16-6-1-2 versus the Wolf Pack over the past five years, and Hershey has won four straight games at the XL Center.
LEWY LIGHTS UP:
Defender Tyler Lewington isn't known for his offense, but the rugged rearguard has posted four assists versus the Wolf Pack this season. With eight helpers on the year, half of Lewington's assists have come in the three games versus the Wolf Pack. Prior the 2018-19 campaign, the defender had just one goal in 12 games versus Hartford. Lewington has 11 points this season, and leads the Bears in penalty minutes with 113.
RYAN RETURNS:
Hershey defender Ryan Sproul spent last season as a member of the Wolf Pack. In 44 games with the Pack last season, he compiled 25 points (10 goals, 15 assists), including four points (one goal, three assists) in four games versus Hershey. Now a member of the Bears, Sproul has scored seven goals in 36 games this season, with four of the tallies being game-winning markers.
BEARS BITES:
Hershey's Riley Barber now has 29 goals, a mark good for second in the AHL, trailing only Chicago's Daniel Carr who leads the league with 30 goals. Barber leads the Bears in goals, game-winning goals (6), insurance goals (6), shootout goals (4), points (53), power play points (29), shots (203), and is tied for first on the team in power play goals (12) and shorthanded goals (1)...Hershey's penalty kill has allowed a goal in seven straight games, going just 15-for-25 (60%) in that stretch. Meanwhile, Hershey's power play has been held scoreless in three straight games (0-for-10)....Aaron Ness and Devante Smith-Pelly each have assists in two straight games...Mike Sgarbossa's fight last night was his first since Nov. 21, 2017 when he dropped the gloves with Laval's Peter Holland as a member of the Manitoba Moose.
