TONIGHT:
The defending Pacific Division Champion Ontario Reign (10-2-1-3) will play the defending Western Conference Champion Stockton Thunder (11-4-0-1) for their third meeting of 2013-14. The Reign have won both games against the Thunder in their season series scoring four goals in both contests. This is the first game between these two teams at Citizens Business Bank Arena - they will play eight of their 14 games against each other at CBBA this season. Last year Ontario held a 6-3-1-2 record over Stockton.
NEW BLOOD:
The Reign claimed 6-foot-8 forward Riley Emmerson off waivers from San Francisco yesterday to help fill in the roster spots left open from call-ups and injuries. Emmerson made his pro debut with former Reign club the Texas Wildcatters from 2006-08 and has played with current Reign players: Chad Costello (Texas) and Brady Calla (Rochester), in addition to several former Reign players including Colton Yellow Horn, Steven Tarasuk, Kevin Baker, Jason Beeman, etc.
RISING TO THE TOP:
After the Reign's Saturday, Nov. 23's sellout crowd, the Reign jumped to the top of the attendance chart with an average of 7,818 fans in six games. Not only are the Reign games currently the most attended ECHL games, but they are the second most attended minor league hockey games behind the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League.
WHERE THEY RANK:
Ontario is tied for second place in the ECHL with the Florida Everblades with 24 points - a Reign win tonight, paired with South Carolina and Florida losses, will put Ontario back into the first place spot in the league.
SECOND PERIOD STRONG:
The Reign have scored 19 of their 48 goals-for in the second period while allowing only eight of their 37 goals-against in the second frame.
