Aces Sign Defenseman, Anchorage Native Brad Gorham

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -The Alaska Aces, proud ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League, announced today that the team has signed defenseman Brad Gorham (GOR-um) while defensemen James Martin and Kane Lafranchise have been recalled to the Abbotsford Heat of the American Hockey League.

Gorham, 27, is an Anchorage native who returns after spending 12 games with the Aces as a rookie last season while collecting two assists and a +5 rating. He earned an assist in his playoff debut vs. San Francisco and posted two assists in six playoff games.

The 6-foot-1, 196-pound blueliner served as captain for the University of Alaska-Anchorage (NCAA) and enjoyed a college career high ten points in 35 games as a 2011-12 senior. He suited up in 95 career games for the Seawolves and Ohio State University, notching 23 points (4g-19a) and 227 penalty minutes.

Martin leads Aces defensemen with eight assists and is tied for the ECHL lead among defensemen with a +12 rating in 14 games this season. He will return for his third stint with Abbotsford with 33 games of AHL experience, along with a pair of goals and assists.

Lafranchise has six points (3g-3a) and a +4 rating in 14 games this season and has 78 points (11g-67a) in 157 career games in an Aces sweater. His AHL experience includes ten games with Oklahoma City and Houston last season.

Gorham will wear jersey #15. The Aces also signed Tate Maris as an emergency backup goaltender, who will join goaltender Olivier Roy on the roster starting tonight.

The Aces return to play tonight, starting an eight game road trip at 5:05 p.m. (103.7 FM/750 AM KFQD) against the Colorado Eagles.
