From the Notes

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: For a second consecutive night, the PawSox defeated the Indians by a 3-2 score. The Tribe led 2-0 until the visitors scored one in the seventh and two in the eighth, giving Pawtucket its second series win over Indy at Victory Field since 2007, the other coming in 2015. The Tribe and PawSox are now level at 45 wins and 45 losses in 90 meetings in Indianapolis dating back to 1988. A run-scoring groundout off the bat of Tony Renda gave the PawSox a 3-2 advantage, just moments after Tzu-Wei Lin tripled to the alley in right-center to tie the game at 2-2. Indy led after one innings thanks to a Jose Osuna infield single that scored Kevin Newman, and Max Moroff doubled the lead with an RBI groundout in the fourth. J.T. Brubaker was again dominant on the bump, tossing 6.2 innings of one-run ball, scattering five hits with five strikeouts. Steven Brault (BS, 1) (L, 0-1) suffered the loss while Robby Scott (W, 3-3) tossed 2.0 shutout frames to earn the win.

BIG TEX TIME AT THE VIC: Tyler Eppler brings his league-leading 12 wins into today's homestand finale against Pawtucket. The 12 victories are a career high for the 25-year-old. He is 8-0 with a 2.35 ERA (17 ER/65.0 IP) in 11 games (10 starts) at home in 2018. Last year, he dominated the opposition at The Vic, going 6-1 with a 2.70 ERA (22 ER/73.1 IP) in 14 games (11 starts). In 25 career games (21 starts) at Victory Field, he's 14-1 with a 2.54 ERA (39 ER/138.1 IP).

SOMETHING BRU-ING: J.T. Brubaker had his scoreless streak snapped at 19.0 innings after allowing a run in the seventh inning of last night's defeat. Over his last four starts, the 24-year-old has posted a 2-0 record and 0.94 ERA (3 ER/28.2 IP). He has only walked one batter during that stretch while striking out 23 and has scattered 19 hits, as well. The Indians had won in each of his previous six starts before succumbing to the PawSox last night, 3-2.

14,688: Last night's attendance of 14,688 was the largest crowd for Indianapolis this season and fourth sellout overall (sellout number is 14,200+). The Tribe had won in each of their previous three sellouts (6/23 vs. DUR, won 7-6 in 10 innings; 7/4 vs. LOU, won 4-2; 7/7 vs. COL, won 7-0).

TWO OVER .300: Kevin Newman (.306, 5th) and Kevin Kramer (.301, 5th) are trying to become the first Tribe players to post an average at or above .300 and rank among league leaders since Matt Hague (6th, .309) and John Bowker (7th, .306) in 2011. Since becoming the Triple-A affiliate of the Pirates in 2005, there have been only three Tribe players to finish with an average at or above .300 while qualifying among league leaders. Brian Myrow hit .307 in 2009, good for seventh in the IL, in addition to Hague and Bowker's .300-plus averages two years later.

RISP: The Indians finished 1-for-12 with RISP on Friday night, leaving 11 total runners on base. They didn't fare much better last night, going 1-for-9 with RISP and leaving seven runners on base, combining for a 2-for-21 clip (.095) with RISP in the series vs. Pawtucket. In the three-game set vs. Lehigh Valley, the Tribe hit .393 (11-for-28) in those situations. For the season, Indy is batting .268 with RISP, the second-best mark in the IL in those situations behind only Durham (.273). Jose Osuna (.400, 28-for-70) and Wyatt Mathisen (.318, 21-for-66) have been Indy's best bats with RISP this season.

FASTEN YOUR SEATBELTS: Since 7/22 (21 games, 14-7 record), the Indians have had 16 games decided by two runs or less, going 10-6 in those contests. Indy was 19-22 in games decided by two or less prior to the recent stretch.

WYATT HITTING WELL: Wyatt Mathisen has hit safely in a season-high 10 consecutive games dating back to 7/29 vs. BUF. During his hitting streak, he's batted .343 (13-for-37) with two homers, two doubles, 12 RBI and six runs scored. He's also walked and struck out just three times apiece during the streak. The hot stretch has raised his average from .250 to .270, its highest point since it was at .271 on 7/15. His 3-hit performance Tuesday night matched a season high previously accomplished two other times (5/15 @ NOR, 5/28 @ CHA).
