DURHAM, NC - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders used a five-run second inning and held off a late push from the Durham Bulls to earn a 6-3 win Sunday at the DBAP.
The RailRiders (61-56) opened the scoring in the visitor's second with a two-run home run by Mark Payton. Giovanny Urshela reached with a one-out double and scored on a two-run shot by Zack Zehner, and Tyler Wade capped the scoring in the frame with a solo shot to right field staking the RailRiders to a 5-0 lead on five hits. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre added to its lead in the top of the sixth after Payton singled with two outs, and Urshela doubled to center to score one run and extend the deficit to six.
In the home half of the seventh, the Bulls (65-51) got on the scoreboard with a leadoff home run by Rob Refsnyder, and tacked on another run with a single to right by Mac James, following a double from Jason Coats, cutting the deficit to 6-2.
Andrew Velazquez launched a leadoff blast in the ninth inning, his 12th home run of the season, cutting the deficit to 6-3. It was his 14th home run of the 2018 campaign combined between Double-A Montgomery (2) and Durham (12), setting a new career high.
