Pigs Blank Bats in Finale
August 12, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
After dropping the first four games of the road trip, the IronPigs responded by winning the final two games of the series in Louisville with a 4-0 victory this afternoon against the Bats. With the victory, the Pigs magic number to clinch the IL-North moves to 11.
Lehigh Valley took the lead in the top of the fifth inning against Jose Lopez (5-11). Logan Moore doubled to make it 1-0 and one batter later, Cole Irvin swapped places with Moore to make it 2-0.
Leading 2-0, the Pigs got insurance against Lopez. Aaron Altherr made it 3-0 with a RBI and Danny Ortiz continued his hot road trip to make it 4-0. Ortiz who extended his hitting streak to seven games is batting .500 with a home run and 10 RBIs.
Irvin (11-4) tossed seven scoreless innings on his way to his eleventh win of the season. Irvin allowed three hits and struck out two. He now moves within one win of Tyler Cloyd's franchise record 12 wins in a season.
Mark Leiter Jr recorded the final six-outs of the game to finish off the road trip. Leiter allowed one hit and struck out two in relief of Irvin. In the last 16-innings of the series, Lehigh Valley pitchers allowed six hits, no runs and struck out 14.
