Clippers' Offense Weathers Tides in Game Two

August 12, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Columbus Clippers News Release

The Columbus Clippers evened their series with the Norfolk Tides tonight, taking game two, 10-2, at Harbor Park.

The Clippers used a six-run second inning and a fantastic start from Adam Wilk to help themselves to the victory, setting the teams up for a rubber-match in game three.

All the Columbus scoring came in the second inning, with Adam Rosales starting things off with his 16th homerun of the season, a solo shot to take a 1-0 lead. Brandon Barnes then scored two more with a double, and was scored himself by another double, this time courtesy of Connor Marabell. Yu Chang then drove him home with a single, and Eric Haase plated Chang with a double to make it a commanding 6-0 lead.

Norfolk responded with two runs of their own in the home half of the second, the first coming on an error by Barnes in centerfield. With a man on, a Luis Sardinas single got under Barnes' glove, allowing the run to score. After that, Ruben Tejada doubled in Sardinas to pull the Tides within 6-2.

Things stayed that way until the seventh when Chang hammered his 11th homer of the year over the left field wall to make it a 7-2 Columbus advantage.

Mike Papi did the same in the eighth inning, his seventh this year, to make it 8-2.

Wilk's day would be done after a scoreless bottom of the eighth, ending his stellar evening. He gave up two earned runs on seven hits, while walking one and striking out five.

The Clippers added two more runs on a Bobby Bradley triple in the ninth to push things even further at 10-2. It was his first Triple-A three-bagger.

Cole Sulser took over and shut things down in the ninth to finish off the 10-2 win.

After splitting the first two games of the series, the teams will meet to decide things tomorrow at 4:05 p.m. at Harbor Park.
