YESTERDAY: The Indians lost their third consecutive home game at Victory Field yesterday vs. St. Paul, 3-2. Both teams traded runs in the second inning to begin the scoring, the Indians tying the game at 1-1 on an RBI single off the bat of John Nogowski. The Saints then took a 3-1 lead with one run in the third inning and another in the fourth. With two runners on and two outs following a leadoff double by Bligh Madris in the ninth inning, Taylor Davis singled to cut the deficit to one run. Ethan Paul walked to load the bases with the top of the order coming up, but Yennier Cano forced a groundout of Tucupita Marcano to end the threat.

THIS GUY'S GOT IT: With a single in the bottom of the fourth inning, Bligh Madris extended his career and team-high hitting streak to 15 consecutive games dating back to Aug. 28. The streak is the highest by an Indians slugger since Christopher Bostick in 2017 (15) and is tied for the sixth highest dating back to 2005. In the past 15 games, which is the longest active hitting streak in the Triple-A East, Madris is hitting .393 (22-for-56) with a .589 slugging percentage and 1.032 OPS. Five Indians batters dating back to 2005 have had hitting streaks longer than 15 games, all of which are listed below (AVG, SLG, OPS):

Chris Dickerson - 16 games; April 29-May 19, 2014; .406 / .547 / 1.158

Ronny Paulino - 16 games; June 7-24, 2005; .464 / .964 / 1.456

Nyjer Morgan - 17 games; June 17-July 17, 2008; .347 / .417 / .782

J.J. Furmaniak - 17 games; Aug. 11-29, 2005; .348 / .449 / .819

Rajai Davis - 21 games (Victory Field era record); May 12-June 3, 2007; .364 / .602 / 1.037

FELIZ CUMPLEAÑOS: Tucupita Marcano, who celebrates his 22nd birthday today, extended his on-base streak to 15 games with a single last night. His streak is tied for the third longest by an Indians player this season, trailing Anthony Alford's 25-gamer and Bligh Madris' current 16-game on-base streak. In that time frame, he is hitting .300 (18-for-60) with a .382 on-base percentage, nine runs scored, five stolen bases and eight walks to 10 strikeouts.

THE BIG NOGOWSKI: John Nogowski has reached base safely in 14 of 15 games dating back to Aug. 29. He has hit safely in seven of his last eight games with an official at-bat. Since Aug. 29, Nogowski is hitting .256 (11-for-43) with 10 RBI, all of which have come in the last nine games, a .411 on-base percentage and 11 walks to seven strikeouts.

SEARCHING FOR SUPPORT: Tanner Anderson is 0-3 with no more than three runs allowed in any of his four starts with the Indians this season. He is one of two active starters for Indianapolis that have an average of 3.5 runs or less of offensive support per game (3.0, also: Miguel Yajure, 3.3). On the flip side, tonight's starter James Marvel receives the most run support on average of any active starting pitcher for Indianapolis (5.8).

TONIGHT: The Indians will look for their first win of the six-game series vs. St. Paul tonight at 7:05 PM ET. This series marks Indy's final six-gamer of the regularly scheduled 2021 campaign, as it will end the season with two five-game series from Sept. 22-Oct. 3. In the Indians first season since 1960 with the St. Paul Saints as an opponent, they are 9-11 with a 2-6 record vs. the Saints in the Circle City. In 1960, St. Paul left Indianapolis with a record of 8-3. RHP James Marvel is set to make his fourth start vs. the Saints this season. On the bump to begin a bullpen day for the Saints will be RHP Derek Law, who hasn't tossed more than 3.0 innings in an outing so far this season.

A MARVELOUS GEM: In his last start on Sept. 10 at Louisville, James Marvel recorded his second consecutive quality start, his third overall of the season and his first win since Aug. 6 at Iowa. He allowed just one run in six innings with a season-high seven strikeouts. It was his third outing of 22 this season in which he allowed just one run over five-plus innings. Marvel hadn't allowed three earned runs or less over 6.0 innings in consecutive starts since Aug. 23-28, 2019, at the tail end of a campaign that earned him Pittsburgh's Minor League Pitcher of the Year Award.

COUNTDOWN TO 200: Brian Esposito currently has a record of 193-202 in three years as manager of the Indians, which ranks 15th all time in franchise history. To reach the milestone of 200 wins, he will have to lead the team to at least a 7-7 record (.500) over the last 14 games against three teams with winning records (St. Paul, four games; Omaha, five games; Nashville, five games). Indianapolis is Esposito's fourth club of his managerial career (also: Short-Season A Jamestown, 2014; Single-A West Virginia, 2015-16; Short-Season A West Virginia, 2017), and in total he has a career record of 426-397.
