ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Indianapolis pitching staff combined to throw its sixth shutout of the season in a 3-0 win over Memphis last night. The Indians opened their night offensively in the top of the second inning against Memphis starter Garrett Williams with a two-run home run to left-center field by catcher Carter Bins. Williams left a breaking ball over the heart of the plate in a 1-2 count, and Bins pummelled his seventh blast of the year. Indianapolis added another run in the sixth thanks to a leadoff triple to center field from right fielder Cal Mitchell and a run-producing ground ball single from third baseman Kevin Padlo.

SLINGING SHUTOUTS: After being shut out in Game 2 of Thursday night's doubleheader, the Indians pitching staff countered with a two-hit shutout of its own last night at Memphis. Starter Johan Oviedo silenced his former team with 2.0 hitless innings, with long reliefer Noe Toribio following to earn the win over 3.0 innings. After Toribio allowed a leadoff triple and a walk to open the bottom of the sixth, southpaw Cam Vieaux entered, struck out the league's leading hitter in Alec Burleson, and got rehabber Juan Yepez to ground into an inning-ending double play. Vieaux followed with 2.0 more hitless innings and accounted for four of the six strikeouts for the Indians pitching staff, with the other two coming in the ninth from right-hander Eric Hanhold. It was Indy's sixth shutout this season and second of the Redbirds (also: June 22 at Victory Field), with the six marking the most shutouts in a season since nabbing as many in 2019.

CATCHER CATAPULTS: Carter Bins launched his seventh Triple-A home run of the season last night to put the Indians up by two runs in the top of the second inning. His seven longballs are tied with Travis Swaggerty for the fifth-most by an Indians batter this season, and his eight total between Double-A Altoona and Indy have tied his career high from 2021 (7 HR with High-A Everett, 1 HR with Double-A Arkansas). Among Indians catchers, Bins has six home runs in his games behind the dish and is only one of two catchers (Michael Perez, 1) to blast a homer with Indy this season. Bins is just one home run away from tying Christian Bethancourt's mark of seven home runs when appearing at catcher, which was the most by an Indians backstop since Ryan Lavarnway also launched seven in 2018.

POPULATING HITS WITH PADLO: After making a statement in his Pirates organization debut in Game 1 on Thursday as he went a triple shy of the cycle and reached base safely in all four plate appearances, Kevin Padlo went 2-for-4 with an RBI last night. Padlo was on base for Bins' homer that gave Indianapolis an early lead, and following a leadoff triple by Cal Mitchell he knocked an RBI single to tack on an insurance run. Padlo was claimed off waivers by Pittsburgh from Seattle on Sunday, and in 62 total Triple-A games between Sacramento, Tacoma and Indianapolis, he owns a .257 average (59-for-230) with 24 extra-base hits and 41 RBI.

MITCHELL TRIPLE: Cal Mitchell lined a scorcher beyond a diving center fielder last night to record his first triple of the season between Indianapolis and Pittsburgh. The outfielder's last triple came on June 9, 2021 with Double-A Altoona vs. Akron, which was his lone of the 2021 season. The knock extended Mitchell's hitting streak to each of his last three games with Indianapolis since being optioned by Pittsburgh, and he is now working a nine-game hitting streak with the Indians dating back to July 7. In 49 Triple-A games, Mitchell owns a staggering .324 average (59-for-182) with 20 extra-base hits.

LEADING THE LEAGUE: The Indians continue to pace the International League with 34 triples, nine more than any of their counterparts. They narrowly trail Albuquerque (37) and are tied with Oklahoma City for the most three-baggers in Triple-A this season. It is also the most triples the Indians have had in a single season since they led the International League with 40 three-baggers in 2016.

TODAY: After trading shutouts with Memphis in the last two games, the Indians will look to take their first lead of the series tonight at 7:35 PM ET at AutoZone Park. From June 21-26, the Indians and Redbirds split their first six-game series at Victory Field. Since 2021, which was the first time in history that the two teams met in the regular season, the Indians hold a 10-6 record against Memphis. Tonight, Jerad Eickhoff will take the mound for his first start against Memphis in his career, with Mike Burrows set to follow in his second start against Memphis this season. On June 25, Burrows surrendered one run over 4.1 innings at Victory Field vs. the Redbirds to take a no decision. Countering for Memphis will be southpaw Matthew Liberatore, who opposed Burrows on June 25 and surrendered five earned runs over 7.0 innings.

THIS DAY IN 1964: Dave DeBusschere, who was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1983, hit a second-inning grand slam off Fergie Jenkins to lift the Indians to a 7-2 win over Arkansas at old Victory Field. Jenkins was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991. DeBusschere earned his 12th win of the season after throwing 6.0 innings and yielding only two runs with five strikeouts. Marv Staehle, Ramon Conde and Jim Koranda registered multi-hit performances in the victory.
