Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders News Release
MOOSIC, PA -The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (57-52) were defeated by the Worcester Red Sox 7-6 in a seesaw battle on Saturday evening. Rob Brantly was 2-for-4 with a pair of run-scoring doubles.
The teams traded a pair of runs in the second with RBI singles from Devlin Granberg and Phillip Evans. Worcester then plated four more in the third to jump ahead 5-1. Ronaldo Hernández hit a three-run long ball to break the tie and Connor Wong homered two batters later in his first start of the series.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre sliced their four-run deficit in half with a two-spot in the bottom of the frame. Oswald Peraza started things off with his team-leading 16th home run of the season and Brantly lined the first of his two RBI doubles to right to make it 5-3. Peraza finished the night 2-for-5 with that big fly and three runs scored.
The RailRiders tied the game in the fifth with two more tallies. Brantly doubled home his second run of the night and Armando Alvarez drove Brantly in the very next at-bat. Alvarez is 11-for-31 (.355) at the plate in eight starts during this home stand.
Worcester reclaimed control of the contest the sixth. SWB pitching walked four Red Sox in the inning as Worcester scored two runs to take a 7-5 lead. The RailRiders trimmed one off the lead in the seventh via a Ben Rortvedt two-base hit to left. However, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre couldn't mount another rally over the final two innings in the 7-6 final.
A.J. Politi (4-0) earned his fourth victory out of Worcester's bullpen. Carlos Espinal (0-2) was saddled with the loss for SWB. Zack Kelly tallied his third save.
The two teams conclude their six-game series Sunday afternoon with first pitch at 1:05 PM. Matt Krook (7-7, 4.17) starts for the RailRiders. It's Sunday Family FunDay, presented by Geisinger and Q92. Kids can play catch on the field from noon until 12:20 PM, get $2 Dippin' Dots and Mamita's Ices all game long and can run the bases after the final out.
