Memphis Registers Four Hits in Loss to Indianapolis

MEMPHIS, TN - The Memphis Redbirds dropped their second straight game to the Indianapolis Indians 6-1 on Saturday night at AutoZone Park in game five of a six-game series.

The lone Memphis run came to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning when designated hitter Moises Gomez clubbed his 31st home run of the season. The home run puts Gomez in the Minor League Baseball lead in home runs.

Center fielder Connor Capel reached base twice in a 1-for-3 performance and was the first Memphis batter to reach safely after he walked with one out in the fourth inning. Left fielder Alec Burleson and third baseman Cory Spangenberg also added base hits.

Juan Yepez made another MLB Rehab appearance, starting in left field for the first time in his stint with Memphis. Yepez played six innings in the outfield and was 0-for-2 at the plate.

Starting pitcher Matthew Liberatore (5-5) lasted 5.2 innings on Saturday night and allowed six runs on nine hits and struck out two batters. Relievers Johan Quezada, Kodi Whitley and Junior Fernandez all supplied scoreless appearances to finish out the ball game.

The Memphis Redbirds (57-52) return to action at AutoZone Park on Sunday, August 14th against the Indianapolis Indians, (54-54) for the finale of a six-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. CDT.
