ABOUT SUNDAY: With the series on the line, standout performances by J-Hwan Bae and Travis Swaggerty led the Indians to a series split against Memphis on Sunday afternoon, 6-2. Down 2-1 in the third inning after a two-run bomb by Alec Burleson in the first, the Indians put up two runs to capture a lead they would not relinquish. With major league rehabbers Kevin Newman and Ben Gamel in scoring position following back-to-back singles and a wild pitch, fellow Pirate Yoshi Tsutsugo drove in the game-tying run with a sacrifice fly. Bae then gave Indy the lead with a two-out single. Mason Martin added an insurance run with a home run in the seventh inning, his 12th of the season, and Swaggerty followed with a two-run shot to center field in the eighth.

EVEN IT UP: The Indians clinched a series split on Sunday while being at risk to fall two games below .500 for the first time this season. They have been one game below .500 (34-35) eight times this season (also: 0-1, 1-2, 7-8, 15-16, 16-17, 30-31, 31-32) with a perfect 8-0 record to return them back to the even mark. Three of those games have been won by one run, three by two runs, one by four runs and one by six runs, outscoring their opponents 45-26 in those eight games combined.

AIN'T NO LIE, BAE BAE BAE: Ji-Hwan Bae continued his torrid month of June on Sunday with a 3-for-4 showing that included a go-ahead RBI single in the third inning. He is now working a four-game multi-hit streak and has reached base safely in 56 of his 65 games played this season. After batting .322 (29-for-90) over 24 games in May, Bae is hitting .363 (33-for-91) with eight extra-base hits in 22 June contests. The 22-year-old ranks among league leaders in average (2nd, .319), runs (T-2nd, 51), hits (4th, 79), stolen bases (5th, 18), triples (T-5th, 4), OPS (8th, .879) and OBP (9th, .383).

SWAGGERTY SMASHES IT: Travis Swaggerty went 2-for-3 with a two-run bomb in the eighth inning to tack on a pair of insurance runs for the Indians. He has now hit safely in 24 of his last 28 games with a .343 average (37-for-108), 13 extra-base hits (five doubles, three triples, five home runs) and 24 RBI dating back to 5/17. In June, he has hit safely in 13 of 15 games, five of which have been multi-hit contests, with a .316 average (18-for-57) and .987 OPS. Four of his six home runs this season have come in his last 15 games.

TONIGHT: The Indians begin their first and only series against Nashville this season tonight in an 8:05 PM ET first pitch at First Horizon Park. Last year, they split the season series, 5-5, with an even record in six games in Nashville and four in Indy. For the Indians, Osvaldo Bido will take the mound for his 17th outing (13th start) of the season. He has made one career start against Nashville in Indy's 2021 series finale and surrendered one run over 3.0 innings. Countering for the Sounds is Alec Bettinger, who is 0-2 with a 5.19 ERA (5er/8.2ip) in two career starts vs. Indy. Tyler Herb is set to follow Bettinger for his first career outing against the Indians.

OPENING GEMS: Three of the Indians four shutouts this season have been kickstarted by Osvaldo Bido on the mound to start the game. In those outings combined, Bido has surrendered one hit and as many walks walks (9) as strikeouts in 8.2 innings. In games where Bido surrenders one run or less, the Indians are 5-1 with the lone loss coming vs. Toledo on 4/5.

REHABBING CORPS: The Pirates announced today that Jake Marisnick has been assigned to Indianapolis to begin a rehab assignment today at Nashville. The 31-year-old was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left thumb injury on 5/10 and was later transferred to the 60-day IL. Prior to his injury, the corner outfielder appeared in 22 games with Pittsburgh and hit .163 (8-for-49) with a pair of doubles. Marisnick is the 11th big leaguer to appear in 12 separate rehab assignments this season, which matches Indy's total from the 2021 season, and the fourth rehabbing position player currently on Indy's roster. The stats from the rehab assignments of Ben Gamel, Kevin Newman and Yoshi Tsutsugo are listed below.

Ben Gamel (3 games): .200 (2-for-10), 2 R, 3 K, .200 OBP, .200 SLG, .400 OPS

Kevin Newman (4 games): .333 (4-for-12), 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 2 K, .385 OBP, .417 SLG, .802 OPS

Yoshi Tsutsugo (4 games): .500 (4-for-8), 1 R, 2 RBI, 3 BB, 1 K, .583 OBP, .506 SLG, .881 OPS

THIS DATE IN 2009: In his first appearance with the Indians since 8/31/05 vs. Toledo, right-hander Ian Snell again toed the rubber vs. the Mud Hens for a history-making outing. Snell struck out a Victory Field era record 17 batters in 7.0 two-hit innings as the Indians won, 2-1, in 10 innings against their divisional rival. The record-setting performance didn't stop there as 13 of those strikeouts were consecutive, another Victory Field era best.
