Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - The Pittsburgh Pirates announced today that outfielder Jake Marisnick has been assigned to Indianapolis to begin a rehab assignment tonight at Nashville. He is the 11th big leaguer to rehab with the Indians this season, following infielders Josh VanMeter, Yoshi Tsutsugo and Kevin Newman, outfielders Anthony Alford and Ben Gamel, and pitchers Heath Hembree, Sam Howard, Max Kranick, Duane Underwood Jr. and Nick Mears.

Marisnick, 31, was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left thumb injury on May 10 and was later transferred to the 60-day IL. Prior to his injury, the corner outfielder appeared in 22 games with Pittsburgh and hit .163 (8-for-49) with a pair of doubles. He has played for six teams in the major leagues over the course of his career and owns a lifetime average of .226 (441-for-1949) with 61 home runs and 78 stolen bases in 822 games.

The native of Riverside, Calif. was originally selected by Toronto in the third round (104th overall) of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of Riverside (Calif.) Polytechnic High School. He made his major league debut with Miami on July 23, 2013 at Colorado. He was signed by Pittsburgh as a free agent on April 7.
