Charlotte Knights News Release
(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- Catcher Carlos Pérez recorded two RBI singles in Tuesday's opener, but the Charlotte Knights dropped the opening game of the six-game series against the Durham Bulls by a score of 6-2 at Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte.
LHP John Parke (2-7, 6.81) started Tuesday's game for the Knights and was saddled with the loss after he allowed six runs over six innings of work. The Bulls jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning against Parke and never looked back. Ryan Boldt started the scoring for the Bulls with an RBI double in the first. After an early 1-0 lead, Jim Haley and Tristan Gray continued the first-inning scoring for the Bulls with RBI singles each to give Durham a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the first inning, the Knights scored a run and cut the Durham lead to two thanks to an RBI single by Pérez. He later added another RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning to provide both of Charlotte's runs on Tuesday. Pérez is the team leader in RBIs with 41 so far this season.
The Bulls added a run in the top of the third inning and added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning - all against Parke. The Charlotte bullpen did a great job in relief of Parke, holding the Bulls scoreless over the final three innings of the game. Relievers Lincoln Henzman (1.0 IP), Hunter Schryver (1.0 IP) and Will Carter (1.0) all kept the Bulls without a run over the final three frames.
Chicago White Sox outfielder Eloy Jiménez continued his major league rehab assignment on Tuesday and served as Charlotte's designated hitter. He went 0-for-4 at the plate. In all, the Knights recorded just five hits in the game.
The Knights will continue the six-game home series against the Durham Bulls (Triple-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays) from Truist Field in Uptown Charlotte on Wednesday. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad and long-time Knights broadcaster Mike Pacheco will have the call for all of the action on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and www.CharlotteKnights.com. First pitch on Wednesday is set for 7:04 p.m. from the home of the Knights.
