From the Notes

ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Chance Adams (5.2ip), Cale Coshow (1.1ip) and Cody Carroll (2.0ip) combined on a five-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre handed the Tribe a second consecutive shutout, 4-0, at The Vic last night. The RailRiders plated one run in the first on a two-out single by Mike Ford, scoring Clint Frazier who had walked and moved to second on a groundout by Brandon Drury. Frazier, Drury and Ford were at it again in the fifth against J.T. Brubaker. Frazier doubled and Drury worked a free pass before Ford doubled to the alley in left-center, pushing the visitors' lead to two. Kyle Higashioka then greeted Tanner Anderson out of the bullpen with a first-pitch single into left to score Drury. Billy McKinney added a solo homer in the eighth off Dovydas Neverauskas, just the third home run the right-handed reliever has allowed in 101.1 career innings in a Tribe uniform. Kevin Newman carried over his May success (39 hits, .361 average) into June with a pair of hits atop the Tribe order. He also swiped two bases in the defeat. Brubaker took the loss after allowing three runs in 4.1 innings. His counterpart, Chance Adams, fanned seven over 5.2 scoreless innings to earn the win. The Indians haven't scored a run in their last 21 innings of play.

HALF DOZEN: Indianapolis enters tonight's game against Scranton/W-B riding its longest losing streak of the season at six games. The Indi-ans dropped the final two games over Memorial Day Weekend in Charlotte before being swept in a three-game set by the Gwinnett Stripers at The Vic. Indy then lost the series opener last night, 4-0. Indianapolis' last losing streak of at least six games occurred from Aug. 20-25, 2016. Louisville gave Indy its first two losses during that stretch before Columbus came to Victory Field and earned a three-game sweep. Louisville then handed Indy another defeat before the Indians snapped that six-game slide with a 2-0 win at Toledo on Aug. 27. The Indians have not lost seven straight games since May 4-10, 2014.

BACK-TO-BACK SHUTOUT LOSSES: The Indians were blanked for a second straight and fifth time overall in 2018 with last night's defeat. Indy suffered consecutive shutout losses twice in 2017. The most recent occurrence was against Durham at Victory Field, as the Bulls earned 1-0 and 8-0 wins on June 26 and June 27. The Tribe were also handed consecutive shutouts by Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on April 21 and April 22 at The Vic, both 1-0 losses. Indianapolis' shutout record in 2017 was 10-13. They were also 1-1 in shutouts in its postseason series against Durham.

STRUGGLES AGAINST SCRANTON/W-B, PART V: The Indians have struggled against the RailRiders since 2014, failing to win all eight of their home/road series en route to an 8-20 record. Fortunately for the Tribe those regular-season woes didn't carry over into the 2015 Governors' Cup Semifinals, when the Indians swept the RailRiders 3-0 before falling in the Governors' Cup Championship Series against Columbus, 3-2. The Indians trail the all-time series against Scranton/W-B, posting just 79 wins against 93 losses in regular season matchups since 1998.

DIFFERENT MONTH, SAME KEVIN: After recording a team-leading 39 hits en route to a .361 average in May, Kevin Newman opened the month of June with a 2-for-4 performance atop the order. He swiped two bases to push his season total to 12, tied for second most in the International League. It was also the second multi-steal effort by a Tribe player this season (Austin Meadows - 2, May 1 at Toledo). Newman is one of 27 players in all of professional baseball with 41 or more hits since the start of May.

ON THIS DATE IN TRIBE HISTORY: First baseman Jeff Clement logged the third cycle by a Tribe player since 1996 on June 2, 2012 against the Syracuse Chiefs at Victory Field. He finished 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored as Indy went on to win the game, 7-3. Clement doubled in the second inning off Tanner Roark and laced a single off Roark in the third. Clement then clubbed his sixth homer of the season off Erik Arnesen to open the sixth before tripling off Atahualpa Severino in the bottom of the seventh.
