
Stripers Stifled Again in Louisville

LOUISVILLE, KY - The Gwinnett Braves lost 3-1 to the Louisville Bats for the second night in a row on Saturday in game two of the three-game series at Louisville Slugger Field.
The loss moves the Stripers to 3-2 on the current road trip with the final game set for Sunday afternoon in Louisville.
The first run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth inning off Gwinnett starter Max Fried. Gabriel Guerrero led off with a single to center, and Blake Trahan and Dilson Herrera followed with walks to load the bases. With one out, Phillip Ervin hit into a 4-6 force play, scoring Guerrero from third.
Gwinnett tied the game in the top of the sixth. Back-to-back singles by Sal Giardina and Rob Brantly put two on with none out against Louisville starter Jose Lopez. A bunt by Danny Santana moved the runners to second and third and Dustin Peterson pushed across Giardina with a 6-3 groundout making it a 1-1 game.
But in the bottom of the sixth, reliever Jason Hursh gave up a leadoff single to Nick Senzel and walked Chadwick Tromp with one out. Mason Williams reached on a 4-6 force play, moving Senzel to third. A Hursh wild pitch scored Senzel for a 2-1 Louisville lead.
In the bottom of the eighth, will Phillip Pfeifer pitching, D.J. Peterson and Tromp opened with back-to-back singles. Williams hit into a 4-6-3 double play moving Peterson to third. David Peterson was called in from the bullpen and he delivered a wild pitch enabling D.J. Peterson to score for a 3-1 Bats' lead.
For the Stripers, Fried pitched 5.0 innings with two hits, one earned run, three walks and six strikeouts in a no-decision. Hursh (L, 1-3) tossed 1.0 inning with two hits, one earned run, one walk and one strikeout. Pfeifer logged 1.2 innings with three hits, one earned run and one strikeout. David Peterson struck out the only batter he faced.
Lopez (W, 2-5) went 7.0 innings with three hits, one earned run, two walks and one strikeout for the Bats. Jimmy Herget (H, 3) worked 1.0 inning with one walk and one strikeout. Kevin Quackenbush (S, 7) picked up his second save in as many nights by working a scoreless top of the ninth with two hits.
For Gwinnett, Giardina and Brantly both went 1-for-1 and Santana went 1-for-3 to extend his on-base streak to 11 games.
For Louisville, Senzel went 2-for-3 with a double and a run and Guerrero went 2-for-4 with a run.
The Gwinnett Stripers (24-29) and Louisville Bats (19-33) conclude the three-game series at Louisville Slugger Field Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Right-hander Matt Wisler (1-2, 3.90 ERA) will start for Gwinnett. Louisville has left-hander Brandon Finnegan (0-4, 5.14 ERA) scheduled to start. Tony Schiavone the play-by-play call on 97.7 and 93.5 FM The Other Side of the River beginning at 1:30 p.m.
