LAST NIGHT: Jacob Stallings blasted two home runs, Eric Wood hit his third long ball of the season and Mitch Keller fanned 10 over 5.0 innings to help the Indians snap a four-game skid with an 8-4 win over the Knights on Saturday night. Tyler Lyons and Clay Holmes tossed 2.0 innings apiece, each striking out four. Stallings and Wood both homered in the third to push Indy's lead to 5-0. After Charlotte crept within one run by scoring two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth, Stallings' second blast in the seventh and a two-run single by Wood in the ninth provided the final margin. Keller (W, 2-0) earned the win after yielding four runs on eight hits, and Jordan Guerrero (L, 1-2) suffered the loss after allowing five runs on seven hits in 2.2 innings of work.
TODAY: The Indians and Knights conclude their three-game series this afternoon at 2:05 p.m. Right-handers Alex McRae (1-2, 6.20) and Spencer Adams (1-0, 8.10) will square off against one another. Adams faced the Tribe on April 13 at Victory Field and took a no-decision after surrendering six runs (three earned) on 10 hits and two walks in 4.0 innings pitched. The Indians won that game, 9-7.
SAME STARTERS, SAME RESULT: For a third time in as many head-to-head pairings with one another, it was Mitch Keller and the Indians coming out on top against Jordan Guerrero and the Knights. Keller's Indians have now beaten Charlotte 6-4, 7-3 and 8-4 over the last two years when he takes the mound against Guerrero. Meanwhile, the Knights southpaw fell to 0-2 with a 9.75 ERA (13er/12.0ip) in three career starts against Indy.
TEN STRIKEOUTS: Mitch Keller struck out a season-high 10 batters in last night's 8-4 victory, the fifth 10-plus strikeout game of his career and first since July 5, 2018 vs. Louisville. He has piled up 32 punchouts in 25.0 innings pitched this year, good for third in the International League behind Louisville's Lucas Sims (35) and Rochester's Lewis Thorpe (33).
JAKE'S JACKS: Jacob Stallings' two-homer game last night was the third of his career and second in a Tribe uniform. It was the first multi-homer game by a Tribe player since Jordan Luplow hit two on May 2, 2018 at Toledo. Stallings' other multi-homer game with Indy came on May 31, 2016 vs. Rochester at Victory Field, a game in which he recorded a career-high seven RBI. His first career two-dinger performance came on Aug. 16, 2013 with High-A Bradenton vs. Fort Myers.
FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING: Clay Holmes tossed the final 2.0 innings last night to nail down the save, the sixth for Indy this season and first of his professional career. He struck out a season-high four batters in the process, which also tied his career high for most punchouts in a relief appearance (also: July 10, 2013 with Single-A West Virginia at Kannapolis, 5.0ip).
APRIL HOMERS: The Indians have belted 28 home runs this month, the most by a Tribe team in the season's opening month in the Victory Field era (1996-present). One more home run hit this month would bump this April's total into the top 10 highest monthly figures by a Tribe team dating back to 2005. The monthly record (since 2005) for home runs hit by the Tribe was 39 in June 2005. The Tribe are tied for fifth in the league in long balls, however, as Triple-A has seen a surge in home run totals across the board.
BY THE NUMBERS - 18: Mitch Keller (10), Tyler Lyons (4) and Clay Holmes (4) combined to strike out 18 batters in last night's 8-4 triumph. The 18-K performance was a season high and just two shy of the team record 20 set on Aug. 15, 2003 at Charlotte. It was the highest total by a Tribe pitching staff since a 19-strikeout game on July 30, 2017 vs. Pawtucket.
