RHP Jacob Waguespack (2-2, 3.54) vs. RHP Nick Pivetta (1-0, 6.00)

Today's Game

This afternoon the Bisons and Lehigh Valley IronPigs play the rubber match to close out their three-game series at Coca-Cola Park. It is also the final game of a seven-game roadtrip for Buffalo that began with four games in Syracuse against the Mets. The Herd will return home tomorrow for a doubleheader against the Pawtucket Red Sox.

Last Game: BUF 8, LHV 5

For the second straight night the Bisons scored first, but Lehigh Valley would answer. Lourdes Gurriel Jr. helped lead Buffalo's offense with a pair of extra-base hits. He hit a two-run double in the second inning, and then a three-run home run that proved to be the knockout blow for the Herd in the sixth. Zach Jackson notched his first win of the year in relief.

Lehigh Valley (1-1)

The 2018 season marked the third straight that Lehigh Valley won the season series against the Herd. Buffalo was just 1-6 against the IronPigs in Downtown Buffalo, and overall 4-14 against the Philadelphia Phillies' Triple-A affiliate.

Today's Starter

Jacob Waguespack is facing his former team for the second time since being traded last summer. The right hander made his Bisons debut on 8/2 against the IronPigs, striking out 12 Lehigh Vallet batters to establish a new modern era record for strikeouts in a debut with Buffalo. He has two wins in four starts this season.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr.

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. doubled his RBI total, moving into a tie for the team lead with 10, thanks to five on Saturday. He also clubbed his third home run with Buffalo, also tied for the team lead, that proved to be the difference in the win over Lehigh Valley. Gurriel Jr. has 12 hits in eight games with the Herd.

Patrick Cantwell

Patrick Cantwell got the start behind the plate on Saturday and delivered the game-tying run in the fifth inning. His RBI single off of Josh Martin tied the game 5-5 in the 5th inning for his 3rd RBI of the season.

Transactions

On Friday the Toronto Blue Jays selected the contract of INF Vladimir Guerrero Jr. from Buffalo and optioned INF Richard Urena to Buffalo to make room on the 25-man roster.

Blue Jays Update

Toronto (13-14) have taken two straight games against the Oakland A's, on Saturday collecting a 7-1 win. Aaron Sanchez picked up his third win of the season with five innings of two-hit work for the Blue Jays. The two teams will conclude their series this afternoon at 1:07 p.m. in Toronto.
