Spoilers

With the first week out of the way, it's time to jump right back into the I-5 Rivalry. Games between Portland and Seattle have been heavyweight bouts for years, and this season's slate shaping up no differently, with the Hawks returning almost all of their key players and the Birds looking to defend a WHL title.

As the back-and-forth kicks off tonight, there's some extra electricity in the air as the T-Birds raise a banner to recognize last year's championship-winning club. That, of course, gives a bit of juice to the home fans and players. But on the other side, Portland's veteran group would love nothing more than to make sure Seattle's banner evening ends with a bitter finish.

Buckle up, hawkey fans - we're in for a good one tonight!

NHL Reinforcements

After starting the season short a few key pieces, the Winterhawks are back to full strength with the additions of Marek Alscher, Luca Cagnoni, Josh Davies, Carter Sotheran, Jan Śpunar and Ryder Thompson from NHL camps this week. Thompson made his 2023-24 debut in Portland's 6-5 OT win over Kelowna last Saturday, while the others are expected to skate in their first regular-season action tonight. Look for this group to hit the ground running in a key rivalry matchup.

Richie Hits 1,000

Congratulations are in order for Winterhawks Strength and Conditioning Coach & Head Athletic Trainer Rich Campbell, who is slated to work his 1,000th WHL game tonight! Campbell has worked for the Winterhawks since the 2008-09 season and was part of Portland's 2013 WHL Championship-winning side, as well as the run of four consecutive Western Conference Championships from 2010-2014.

Way to go, Richie!
