September 30, 2023 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Regina Pats News Release
Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats scored in the dying minutes of the game to force overtime before falling 4-3 in the extra frame to the Moose Jaw Warriors on Saturday inside the Brandt Centre.
Matteo Michels tallied three points (2G-1A), including two tying goals for the Pats, with the 3-3 tying goal coming with just over three minutes to play. Brayden Barnett also recorded a multi-point game (2A) and Kelton Pyne made 29 saves in the loss, as the Pats fall to 2-2-1.
It was what you could describe as a seesaw game, as the Warriors and Pats continued to trade leads throughout the contest.
Corbin Vaughan opened the scoring on the Pats first shot of the game less than 30 seconds in before the Warriors tied it going into the first intermission. It remained tied after two, as Michel's beat Jackson Unger in the dying seconds, overcoming the first of two one-goal deficits in the game.
Brayden Yager scored the overtime winner for the Warriors, while Jagger Firkus, Connor Schmidt and Lynden Lakovic rounded out the scoring. Jackson Unger made 30 saves in the Warriors third straight win.
THEY SAID IT
"I thought it was a pretty gritty performance. They have some really great players, and that for the most part, Michels, Barnett and Rowan did a good job on them. We have a lot of faith in those players, and they are playing the style of hockey we know they can play. We've gotten leadership from that line and the rest of our group has bought in for the most part. We have a little more work to do there. We need to get a little more production out of some people." - Regina Pats Assistant Coach Ken Schneider
FINAL: Warriors 4, Pats 3 (OT)
