HEAD TO HEAD - This is the sixth of 16 meetings this season between the Thunder and the Americans. All-time, Wichita is 13-18-3 against Allen and 5-11-1 on the road.
TODAY - Wichita plays its first road game of 2015 this afternoon against the Allen Americans. The Thunder are coming off a 3-2 win at home against the Quad City Mallards while Allen was off last night. Both teams are coming off victories in their last outings as the Americans have won their last two against Rapid City. Wichita has won their last four contests. The Americans are led by Jack Combs, who has 21 goals and 31 assists as well as Chad Costello who has 48 points. Wichita is led by Danick Gauthier, who has 30 points this season, along with Ian Lowe who also has 30 points (12g, 18a).
CLOSE CALL - Wichita improved to 7-2-1-4 in one-goal games with a 3-2 win on Saturday night. The Thunder have appeared in seven-straight games that has been decided by a single goal. Over that stretch, Wichita is 6-0-0-1.
DONNING THE 'C' - In his first game wearing the 'C', Ian Lowe scored a power play goal to extend his goal scoring streak to four games. He has points in his last seven, which is a team season-high (5g, 5a). Lowe is tied for fifth place in the ECHL for power play goals along with Danick Gauthier and Kenton Miller, who each have five on the man advantage.
THIRD PERIOD HEROICS - Wichita scored two third-period goals last night and now has 30 on the season in the final period. It was the first win for the Thunder when trailing entering the third period. Wichita improves to 1-7-0-2 in that department.
WORKHORSE - Tim Boron started his eighth-straight game last night, claiming his 12th win of the season. He made some tough saves down the stretch and finished with 30 on the night. Over that span, he has gone 7-0-0-1. With the victory, Boron moves into a seventh place tie in wins amongst goaltenders.
THUNDERBOLTS... Danick Gauthier is tied for 16th in goals (14), tied for fifth in power play goals (5) and tied for sixth in power play assists (8)...Ian Duval added his 13th helper of the season and has points in six-straight games (1g, 6a)...Tyler Bunz is sixth in the league in goals against average (2.39) while Tim Boron is in 12th place (2.57)...Tyler Bunz and Tim Boron are tied for second in shutouts (2)...Wichita is eighth in shots for per game (31.42) and third in shots against per game (26.42)...Wichita is 5-1-0-1 when leading after one...Wichita is 9-2-0-0 when tied after one...Wichita is 5-3-1-1 when tied after two periods...Wichita is 12-7-0-2 when outshooting the opponent...
