EVANSVILLE- On the heels of a Dane Fox goal with 5:02 left in the third period, the Kalamazoo Wings earned a 6-5 victory Saturday night at the Ford Center against the Evansville IceMen.

There was plenty off offensive fireworks in the opening period that were started 4:03 into the contest with a goal from Matt Lowry. Skating into the attack zone, Lowry sent an innocent wrister towards the net for his fifth goal of the season.

Kalamazoo evened the game at 1-1 just over a minute later with a power-play tally from Ludwig Blomstrand (9th).

Standing nearly in the right corner, Curtis Valk put the K-Wings in front midway in the period with a no-angle goal strike for his team-leading 11th of the season.

Already scoring on the power-play, the K-Wings penalty-killers also got into the scoring late in the period with a shorthanded breakaway tally from Nathan Longpre (8th).

Cutting the deficit to a single goal with less than two minutes remaining in the period, former K-Wing Colin Murray (5th) scored off a face-off win.

Early in the second period, Jim McKenzie recorded the equalizer for the IceMen by registering his third goal of the season 55 seconds into the stanza.

Longpre (9th) responded 6:36 into the period with his second goal on the night, this time on the power-play to put the K-Wings back ahead.

Fighting back midway in the period, Evansville tied the contest at 4-4 with a power-play tally from Brandon Wong (10th)

The see-saw match-up continued early in the third period. Seconds after the K-Wings killed off a penalty; Jean Bourbeau created an odd-man rush by sending a cross rink pass to Justin Taylor, who dropped it back in the slot to Sam Ftorek for the defenseman's first goal of the season.

Never backing down, the IceMen responded midway in the period. In a mad scramble in front of the K-Wings net, former K-Wing Brandon Martell (4th) jammed in a rebound to tie the game at 5-5.

Down on a one knee behind the IceMen's net, Matt Caria whacked the puck into the slot to Fox (6th) for the eventual game-winner.

The K-Wings finished the game 2-for-3 on the power-play, while the IceMen went 1-for-4.

Kalamazoo will begin a brief two-game road swing tomorrow, January 3rd with a7:15 p.m. (CST) encounter at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana against the Evansville IceMen.
