Portland Sea Dogs News Release

Portland, Maine- The Trenton Thunder (27-18) caught a break from Mother Nature to capture their eighth straight win defeating the Portland Sea Dogs 4-2 in a fog shortened game Friday night at Hadlock Field. The game was called in the bottom of the seventh with two outs and the Sea Dogs threatening. The loss was the Sea Dogs fourth straight as they drop to 13-30 on the season.

Down 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh Vladimir Frias doubled to lead off the inning and Alex Hassan earned a one out walk putting the tying run on base. After right fielder Addison Maruszak struggled to catch a Ryan Lavarnway fly ball in the fog and with Tim Federowicz coming to the plate for Portland, Trenton manager Tony Franklin met with the umpires sending the game into a fog delay.

After a 30 minute fog delay, the game was officially called. The only other fog out in franchise history came earlier this season on April 27th when the game was called after seven innings of play resulting in a 9-4 Portland loss to Binghamton.

The game featured a starting pitching match-up of the Red Sox sixth ranked prospect Stolmy Pimentel facing the Yankees fourth ranked prospect Manny Banuelos. The two recorded nearly identical lines both tossing five innings, Banuelos allowed two runs on four hits, walking three and notching four strikeouts. Pimentel allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits; he walked one and fanned four.

The Thunder got on the scoreboard first, in the second inning Damon Sublett tripled scoring Jose Pirela. Sublett would score on Pimentel's wild pitch and Trenton took a 2-0 lead.

In the fourth, Lavarnway's passed ball allowed Pirela to score extending the Thunder lead to 3-0.

Portland closed the gap in the bottom half of the inning when Jon Hee delivered a two run single.

The Sea Dogs had an opportunity in the fifth inning putting two runners on with nobody out but failed to score.

Austin Romine added an insurance run for the visitors with a RBI double in the seventh.

Banuelos (2-0) picked up the win and Pimentel (0-7) suffered the loss despite pitching well. Grant Duff earned his first save of the season pitching the final 1.2 innings without allowing a run.

The two clubs will play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1:00 PM. Sea Dogs' righty Stephen Fife (5-2, 2.41) gets the start in game one. He will face Trenton lefty Kei Igawa (2-1, 1.79). Game two will feature Sea Dogs' righty Jeremy Kehrt (0-0, 4.03), making his first start of the year. Trenton has not yet announced a game two starter.
