Altoona Curve News Release
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Curve and Binghamton Mets fell victim to the heavy storms in the Northeast on Friday night as the game was suspended with the score tied at six in the top of the seventh. Altoona had just advanced the go-ahead run to third before the game was sent into a delay.
The two teams will finish up Friday night's game, before Saturday night's schedule game, beginning at 6:05 p.m. The second game, which will still be nine innings, will begin 30 minutes after the completion of Friday night's suspended game.
The B-Mets jumped on starter Aaron Thompson in the first as they sent eight men to the plate while scoring four runs. After allowing the first two men of the inning to reach, Thompson battled back to retire both Josh Satin and Reese Havens and it seemed like he would escape damage in the first.
With two down, Brahiam Maldonado doubled in a pair of runs to put Binghamton in front, 2-0. Allan Dykstra and Eric Campbell each followed with RBI hits to bring home a run and when the inning was over it was 4-0 B-Mets.
The Curve rattled starter Jeurys Familia in the fifth when Starling Marte delivered a two-out, two-run triple to bring home Thompson and Brock Holt. Quincy Latimore followed with an RBI single of his own and the Curve found themselves within two. Binghamton answered back with a run of its own in the bottom half of the fifth but Altoona drew even in the sixth.
Tony Sanchez doubled in Jeremy Farrell, who reached on an error to start the inning, and Altoona was back within two at 6-4. With one down and two on, Eric Fryer was called upon to pinch hit for Thompson and he delivered with a triple into the right-field corner to score Farrell and Brad Chalk to tie the game at six.
Altoona continued the offensive in the seventh off reliever Eric Niesen as Latimore singled off the new B-Mets reliever. After Jordy Mercer hit in to a fielder's choice that retired Latimore, he stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch during Farrell's at bat. Farrell drew a walk to bring Sanchez up but Binghamton went to its bullpen for Rhiner Cruz. When Cruz was done warming up the game was sent into a delay.
LHP Jeff Locke (2-5, 5.13) will look to rebound from consecutive tough outings on Saturday night as he'll start in the second game for the Curve. RHP Tobi Stoner (NR), who was recently promoted to Binghamton after completing a rehab assignment with the St. Lucie Mets, will make the start for Binghamton.
Airtime for the completion of Friday night's game and the scheduled Saturday night contest on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network is scheduled for 5:35 p.m.
